Hi gang,

My son is getting his EMT cert and I would like to get him a good flashlight as a gift.

I’m partial to Olight, but I wonder if the M2R Pro with its 21700 battery might be a tad large/heavy.

I liked my old Fenix, but for whatever reason I question if their quality had declined over the last few years.

Input would be appreciated, especially from those with EMT experience.

Thanks!

in a word - malkoff.

gene generally does cyber monday sale beginning at midnight. he also has a 1st time buyer discount with email sign up.

surefire & pelican are the only other brands i bother with. .02...

a Malkoff or Surefire are great EDC lights for a solid reliable light ... and I really like all the Fenix lights I have owned and never had any issues with any of them ...

but for an EMT you need to consider that it isn't all about lumens ... many times an EMT or first responder will need a low output light to use to check pupils or around a person who may be have photophobia (sensitivity to light) for various reasons ...

and for that reason he may want a good bright light for some situations auto accidents at night etc ...

but he will use a dim pen light or very low lumen variable light such as a Fenix LD12 or small Streamlight much more often ...

maybe a combo of a good EDC light that he can carry on belt ... and a solid pen light or small variable lumen flashlight ... won't have to break the bank on either ...

congrats on your son becoming an EMT and best of luck to him.

Just to close this out, I wound up getting him an Olight M2R.

I couldn’t resist the Black Friday deal. It arrived yesterday. I wish I had picked one up for myself.

The only thing that I think might make it better for him is if the tail switch mirrored the side switch. The tail switch only goes full or strobe—which is probably good for a tactical light. If he uses it to check someone’s pupils....ouch!

I imagine he’ll have a penlight anyway.
