EN-31 steel

I believe it is asian steel similar/equivalent to E52100, which is a very clean steel used to make bearings and gage tools. Base your searches on that.
 
The certs I found are as follows

C 1.00
Mn .50
Cr 1.40
Si .20

What applications fit this steel best , Thanks for the follow up
 
As suggested...it's very close to E52100,which is an escellent steel for knifemaking.

Also "Certs" are short for Certified Test Results,and the chemistry is specific to

the melt tested....and certified.

Perhaps you already knew that...?....but others may not have......

When chemistry is listed on line,it's usually "nominal" analysis,which will vary from

melt to melt.

No that is new info to me can you add more detail to that info. I am going to guess 52100 and E52100 are the same ?
 
The "E" refers to the 52100 being an Electric furnace steel. There is also a "VIM-VAR" version
which refers to it being vacuum melted. In conversations about 52100, the versions are often
lumped together and just refered to as "52100".
Industry requires very predictable HT responses and mechanical characteristics of 52100,thus
clenliness and chemistry are very tightly controlled, and are very close. melt to melt.

The steel you asked about does fall within "nominal" for 52100.

Probably....but just for a little more certainty, I'd suggest contacting who-ever made the EN31 for
their HT recommendations. The more you know, the better decisions you can make......
 
Ok guys thank you for the help , I am just doing homework on steels at this point there is no knife I am referencing
