Hi folks,

I just got a used Enco NR hardness tester that is missing some parts. Namely the weights (of course) and the hanging arm that hold the weights. does anyone out there have a parts/users manual or know what the mass of the weight/arm combo is supposed to be? I also need a bit of a class on how to use it. Most of the videos and articles i found have a different mechanism of use. this one doesn't have a "trigger" lever, it just has one large lever on the right side near the back. I'll post photos later.

I tried searching on here but i didn't find much of anything related to this particular tester.

Thanks!

Can you get a manual and parts from Enco?

I was having problems with my hardness tester. I got some great help off of this forum. Hopefully you will also.

Enco doesn't really exist anymore, it was bought by another company. MSC or something like that...

It looks like the unit from ebay? I was just wondering when I saw that unit where the weights are.. Maybe you could write the company that bought them to see if they still have some spares around? Getting those parts custom done might not be worth it. You should also consider returning the machine if possible...

Mine is not the same tester but it doesn't have a trip lever either and that confused me for a bit but on mine once there are weights (which there weren't initially) you can begin to push that one lever and then it moves on its own due to the weight. I don't have a weight number for you but if you can find a ballpark you can then dial it in on a test block. I made my weight using a PVC tube and the smallest lead shot I could get.

yep, I got it from the bay. I'm not really worried about the missing pieces, I'm pretty sure that I can manufacture them. The only thing I really need to know is the weight. The indenter is for HR "B" scale, so I came into it knowing I'd have to do a little refitting to make it work.

I got a cheap indenter from Aliexpress coming any day. I will report on how the readings are. Good luck!

If I recall my weight was about 6000grams this was for a "150kg" weight stack on the wilson machines and I then fine tuned it with a test block.

We are in the same boat. I just brought home an Enco model NR tester and there are some loose parts laying inside of it. I do have the weights but am not sure how it works or where the loose parts fit it. Have you had any luck with your yet? Have you located a manual or diagram?

I haven't found any documentation of any kind really. I took mine all apart to see how it works, so if you need pics of how it all fits together, I can do that.

Can you post pics of the parts you have sitting around?

That would be awesome! Meantime I'm still looking if I find any information I'll share it on this thread.

So I took my machine back apart to take some pics.

Inside the front cover with the load arm removed. The "blade" with the hole in it is the piece that holds the indenter.

The lever arm and the cover. The dial indicator slots into the square cut out in the arm.

The cover puts pressure on the front "v" cutout, the piece that holds the indenter fits under the second "v" and the weight stack hangs from the opposite end.

The pieces I am missing are the arm that holds the weights, and the weights themselves.

B BigDaddy58 hope that helps!

Well I finally got around to working on this little beast and I got a few things fabricated up. I got the weight and arm put together, but now I've run into another obstacle.

The little screw that holds in the indenter was broken so I took it out (more than a year ago) and put it into a very clever spot, so I wouldn't lose it. Yeah. So... I lost it.

I've found a screw that will fit the spot, but it won't go all the way in. I remember that the end of the screw had a spring loaded plunger on the end of it.

Can anyone take a picture of their retaining screw so I can make one? THANKS!!
