Ran across and purchased a NIB 615SBK Blackwood yesterday. I've already got a satin finish PE 610 & 615 and I'm not a huge fan of DLC or PS blades but, you don't see a NIB Rukus very often and since it is a Rukus I can overlook these negatives. Running across this one got me to thinking, just how long has it been since BM discontinued this model?

It's worth emailing BM to see if they'll still replace the blade with a satin PE for $25. As for how long ago it was disco'd I have no clue.

I might be off a bit but I "think" 2009 was the last time I saw it still in the BM catalog. I really am just going from memory but I seem to recall it was introduced in 2006 and 2009 was the last time I saw it in the BM catalog?

Perhaps someone with a more definitive answer will come along and either confirm my recollection or provide the definitive answer.

I also think the Rukus in all is forms is one of BM's best knives ever offered. A real winner in so many way's. .

Congratulations on a great score!

Thank you for the replies. Decided to carry the 615SBK today. I really like the Rukus design and any time I run across one locally I've snagged it.

Definitely call BM about blade replacement if you want PE. Last time I asked them about discontinued blades, the guy did mention that they have a lot of 615 and 610 blades left.

Thanks for the info. I'm happy enough with the knife as is. I've got PE versions if I ever felt the need to use/carry one. Still curious as to when this was discontinued. According to their website BM announced the 615 in November 2006 but no date is listed for when they stopped production. For some reason I was thinking it was 2010 or 2011 but I have nothing to back that up.

I think the replacement blades they have left are the generic 610 / 615 blades that do not have the Blackwood design logo on them. The original blades have greater value.

Obviously if your blade is damaged beyond repair the generic replacement is better then nothing but I wouldn't replace the original blade unless I had no choice.

Just an observation based on what I believe to be the case. Of course I could be wrong but I've read of other who replaced their blades and were very surprised with what they got back. Either way if you are considering it, do call them to verify and make sure what they will be replacing it with.

All the best.
