end plates question

Hello,

I have a CS trail and pipe hawk and am thinking of putting a metal plate on both ends of the shafts for decoration and for a strike plate when taking the head on/off. What I wanted to get input on was recommendations for attaching the metal plate to the wood. I was thinking anything from scoring lines in the wood and then using a good epoxy (I like this idea as it doesn't have anything really drilling into the wood especially at the blade end) to hold the plate on to drilling two holes through the plate and then short screws into the wood. I think I like the idea of the epoxy better than the screws. Anyone have experience or suggestions for this?

Whatever you do you will need both mechanical and adhesive to hold it onto there.
There are reasons that knife makers use both epoxy and pins on their scales. Just epoxy would be nice, but even with the best epoxies that money can buy it won't hold up without the mechanical fasteners included.

Even then I'm not sure how long it will last if you throw your hawks.

I'd think that a relativly thick and coarse screw brazed to the metal (silver/brass) that you are using would look best.
It would thread itself into a predrilled hole in the shaft, and you could epoxy it in place permanently before grinding it to the shape you desire.
It would look nice, be very robust, and have a good chance of holding up.
