I would love to hear opinions about an Edela w/micarta + a steel upgrade (s45vn/m4/pick-a-steel).

Alternatively, let me know if you already see a knife in Spyderco's lineup that fills a similar role.

The Endela is a great size... I always found the Endura too long and Delica too small. The Stretch 2 is a very similar size to the Endela (only have the KC exclusive Hap40/Pakkawood), and I like it better because of the finger choil option. That's why I'm waiting on restock of a Stretch 2 in K390.

But I wouldn't mind having some nice Micarta with either of those models. And if you look around, there are dealer exclusive models that have different steels including sanmai HAP40 with mahogany Pakkawood (KC) and 20CV with red/black zome (DLT)... There may be more but I don't know.

Well, you can already get the Endela in K390, which is about as good as it gets unless you are needing good corrosion resistance. There are dealer exclusives as mentioned as well. I'm not aware of any after market scales available although I would be a little surprised if there weren't any.

I have the endura in kc exclusive with pakkawood and it doesn't get any better imo.

Personally I don't really care for micarta that much. The endela kc exclusive is worth it if that's available still as lmcq784 lmcq784 Mentioned.

I have a set of Boomer52 scales, on my K390 Endela. Very much, a better feel, in hand!

I also send a vote for the Stretch. Similar size and a Great fit and feel, in hand.

I keep my Hap40 Stretch, in the EDC rotation.
Time to sell the k390 Stretch, I guess.

I thought they were overpriced at $200 before, but it is currently marked down to $160. Much more reasonable price for what you get (Pakkawood scales, full liners, HAP40/SUS410 sanmai).

Micarta is great for a lot of knives, adds a nice level of texture and grip. But for most Spyderco designs, it's just not necessary. Most Spyderco designs are inherently ergonomic and gives a "locked-in" grip. Their FRN texture is also VERY grippy, which makes the negates one of the core features of Micarta, leaving it for aesthetics only. Just my 2 cents.

A couple weeks ago I noticed the straight spine Stretch was almost exactly the same as the Endela - except the Stretch has a finger choil. But I wondered: does the Stretch have partial or full metal liners?

Now you have peaked my interest! Have a picture? I had no clue such existed.
Of course !!

Hope you think it's as cool as I do.

S Skar I don't know why, but I just can't get my mind around those laminated blades. Fallkniven uses them, too. Love the wood and the steelwork on the liners and lock back, though.

I agree the Pakkawood Delicas, Endelas, and Enduras from KC are fantastic.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The steel holds a edge and doesn't chip out.
The sus410 melds right into it, it's softer and does scratch yet so does cv20 and k390.

Hap40 is Awesome! I still have a Hap40 Delica, new in the box.
I've used all the Hap40 blade models, to do blade swaps.
Foliage Green G10 DF2, Delica, and Endura.
Also, custom Boomer52, Foliage Green g10 scales, for my Hap40 Stretch.
Even did a Foliage green scale swap on my Ladybug.. lmao..

Endela Hap40, is the only one I don't have.. hmmmm.. Might have to snag one, incase I can ever get Foliage Green scales for it! Lol

You could get the Red Zome special edition in 20CV from DLT Trading and have some Micarta Scales made for it. What's insane is that you could probably do that for less than the price of a new Military or Kapara.

My Stretch 2 is at home, but I'm almost certain it has full steel liners.

Also, the Stretch 2 handle is different beyond the choil. It's a bit fuller, more hand-filling than the Endela.
