Endura 4 FFG Problem

Hi there,

I have been referring to this forum for great information on knives for a while now, and I've decided to join. I've just got an Endura 4 FFG in the mail today, but have noticed a problem with it and I am wondering if anybody else has noticed. I don't have a camera at the moment but I will do my best to describe it. The blade seems to be cut unevenly. The indents at the start of the blade just after the jimping are uneven. The right side is cut very deeply and the left hardly at all. The blade tapers down perfectly straight, but because of the uneven cutting at the beginning it comes off just under a millimeter off center. I know its hardly anything, but I am wondering if anybody else has had this problem. Or if it is even a problem.

Thanks

Are you asking about the spine or the bevel? They are done by hand, so the uneven sides may be due to this and is normal. 2 of my Spydies have this, and it will not affect the usablility at all. The FFG Endura is a great blade, and has excellent quality control, but without a pic I can't say.

If it's not rubbing against the liners, you're fine. Try to post a few pics at different angles. BTW, a milimeter is definately not a big deal.

don't look at the indents or the way the primary bevel "plunges" from the choil on either side (most noticeable at the hole.) those differences in plunge matter little. for real symmetry, look at the spine from above. the blade, the lockbar, and even the FRN insert to the rear should be perfectly aligned. next, see if the blade spine tapers perfectly from the thumb ramp to the tip. 1mm is serious with a 3mm-blade.

I am sure it will still be perfectly useable, I was just wondering if anybody else had experienced this. Thanks for the replies! What I mean is that because of the uneven cuts, the blade is not straight. When I look at the edge head on, the handle is at an angle, and visa versa.

I've had quite a few with uneven grinds and especially in the Enduras and Stretches from Seki City. Golden usually gets it right but will get just about everything else wrong. Taiwan is perfect.

I'm not a fan of it. Victorinox measures their edges with laser to make sure everything is done right and they're considerably cheaper knives. Many of Cold Steel's knives are also Taiwan made so again you get more exacting levels of quality for a much cheaper price. It's 2012 and we should be able to expect a little more from Spyderco in my opinion.
