Endura 4 First Impressions

I have had this knife for literally one hour so these are my "first takes" on this knife.

A few days ago I posted a thread asking if Endura 4 was any good and the overwhelming response was "yes"....so I got one.

Nicely boxed, taped, UPC, bubble wrap, foam. I feel confident this is not a fake. Green.

Blade: Crazy sharp and pointy. I like the FFG.

Action: Stiff but not bad. Put some of the Benchmade Blue Oil on it and she's opening up a little. Tight fore and aft lockup.

I checked the screws and they were all tight except for the "rocker arm" for the lockback. I tightened it a hair then found the action too stiff so I put it back to factory LOL.

I like the lockback design. I am used to the Buck 110, same deal.

The pocket clip slides on easily but I have already dinged it (right front pocket). 4 corners design which is what I like.

It has a lanyard hole, not sure if I can get Para 550 through there....prolly can.

It is very light because of the scales. They are plasticy but my Griptilian has the same feel so I knew what I was getting.

Gotta go play poker! Maybe I'll win and get another Endura....now I want the Pacific Salt model for when I'm out the Chesapeake Bay.

Thanks for the recommendation!

The texturing on the handle is some kind of elegant brilliance. I both do and do not understand why anyone would want the G10 version.

Glad you like the knife! I'm already setting money aside for the wharncliffe version that is currently in the prototype stage.

I was unaware they have a prototype wharny in the making. Do you have pics? How did you know this? I wonder if it will look like the Micheal Janich grinds. I wanted one of those but did not pull the trigger in time.

That action will break in over time. Super gritty right out of the box, but give it a little time and it should break in nicely. There is a world of difference between the action of a brand new and a broken-in Spyderco lockback IMO.

I know this because I lurk the Spyderco forums with some regularity. Link to the thread here.

Good choice, my Endura 4 is in my pocket now, I really should pick up a ffg one.

Mine is the standard FRN design.
Do I need to be a member to post pictures??

I've not only polished the blade I've polished any where metal contacts metal short or the code 4 I sold not all that long ago it's the smoothes back lock around.

Chris...What grit did you go to for that beautiful polish?...and in what stages, please.

I like the lockback design. I am used to the Buck 110, same deal.

Nice thing about the Endura though is that you can press the lock release and the blade will drop at least some and then it is easy to close one handed.

110 not so much

I just got this Delica and am hoping it will free up and drop like the Endura but so far, even with lube and loosening the pivot, not happening.

Endura laps the field for the win.

For the 110 there's always the leg swipe while pressing the lock.

For the Delica if I give it a bit of a flail it will drop.

Well that was sure a lot of photos.
Not sure it was worth it but . . .
I had fun fooling around.

Hope you enjoy the new Endura ! ! !

The action will get smoother over time. The Endura really is a great design. Lots of blade, lightweight, plenty of grip.

Mine was smooth as butter out of the box. ;) It doesn't drop shut, but the big thing about the Endura 4 for me is that I can open it and close it one-handed in complete control (I'm an oddball who doesn't like flippers and loud, snappy opening and closing). It's a combination of smooth pivot and good-sized thumb-hole. Just a very comfortable knife to use and live with. Glad you're happy with it! By the way, the pocket-clip will wear crazy-fast and if you like a weathered look as I do, you'll love it. This is a knife that'll very quickly feel like an old buddy.

Yeah I’m ok with a broken in clip. No way I’m taking a Dremel to this thing cuz I’m sure I would screw it up. But I dig the polished look.
