Endura 4 vs more expensive knives?

VG10 steel.
GP EDC...YES.

What do you want to do with it?

expensive does not mean better. Yes, the Endura could readily out perform many other knives in term of pure cutting ability.

It can hold its own in anything but overbuilt, tactical, knife shaped wedge, internet circle jerking. As a cutting tool its geometry, steel, and heat treat dictate performance. If you compare that to many, if not most, high end knives the endura will out perform them in many categories. It will also carry lighter and flatter than many. Do, in a very general statement, yes it can and does keep up with the big boys.

"Hold its own", how?

Even my $15 Opinel can hold it's own against my William Henry when it comes to plain cutting. In fact, it may even be sharper at this particular moment.

It has fewer features, not less quality. More expensive knives might have more expensive steel. More expensive knives might have better handle materials. More expensive knives will definitely be smoother than a FRN knife. Otherwise the Delica/Endura have been around for a long time and have proven themselves.

Yes, it can hold its own and I don't know if you can spend less without giving up performance. It's a great value.

I like the fancier knives as much as the next guy but there's a reason (many actually) why the Endura gets a lot of use and pocket time for me.

In before the negative FRN comment guy. Call it cheap or whatever but a lot of that is far from the truth. Not fancy but unless you baton the freakin handles of your knives in end of the world scenarios, FRN is strong, light, durable, and offers positive grip patterns other materials usually cannot match. Just like polymer pistols, I've come to appreciate FRN for its advantages.

Yes, because anyone who uses a knife differently than you must surely masturbate with other men.

Such ignorance. Anyways, it's all about your intended usage. I never liked my Endura as a whole, but it was a decent cutter.

Hard-use tacticlol knives being used...lololol.

Just curious what knives you have that cut better than a endura 4? How do they cut better? Surely they must be thinner blades with even thinner edge geometry? One more question why is the edura 4 a "decent" cutter in your opinion? Thanks

Did he overdo it? I don't know lol. There are those folks who like overbuilt and also uber tactical knives that have office jobs and do nothing more than go to the mall on the weekends. The same ones who will claim that a knife like the Endura is insufficient when many who actually use knives know that isn't true. His post seems like it was a slight on those types of folks not necessarily for what they like (to each his own) but for sounding ignorant themselves.

Big LOL's since the Endura was marketed as one of the first "tactical" knives.

I fail to see your point. I own multiple "hard use" knives, and I would be surprised if most people's entire collections had seen as much cutting as just one of mine.

I find it a bit too long, but it was probably the sharpest out of box knife I've ever owned. Due to its length, it serves mostly kitchen duty for me. More expense doesn't correlate with better actual cutting performance. My Rat 2 and only it, could serve me just fine. Same for a Delica.

See post #14 for my questions thanks

Obviously when I say it's a decent cutter, it means exactly that. It's pretty good at it. I have some fillet knives that are pretty good slicers. Got rid of my Opinel. I think I have a box of razor blades around here as well.

For me there's more to a knife than just cutting. A dragster may be the quickest vehicle you can buy, but I look for more than just one feature. I respect the Endura, but mine wore out and I found other knives I like more. It's a hobby we all share, and it still baffles me how rabid the traditionalists can be towards other segments of tye market. Post your opinions about knives, not people.

I think you would agree that there's a difference between tacticLOL knives and tactical knives. The Endura has been around since 1990 and still a best seller to this day. It may have been marketed partly as a tactical knife and would serves that purpose well (SS, G10, serrated, coated versions) but it clearly has succeeded because of it's other virtues as well.
