I have my gateway Tenacious that I love for a first spydie. I also have a Endura4. The Tenacious has bronze washers and flips open like smooth glass(I actually tightened the pivot to slow it down). I was looking at the E4 and noticed no washers at all, no copper, no nylon. I did loosen the pivot a bit, and it now provides the deployment pleasure I seek. But, is this right, no washers for the E4?

They are really really thin and have a small diameter. You probably can't see without taking it apart. Search youtube, you will see.

There is washers in the Endura. Also the deployment speed will be different between those two because of the locking mechanism.

Thanks guys, I just watched a youtube and see the washers...My E4 came with a lot of oil on it that I wiped off. I haven't done anything but loosen the pivot a small amount. Is there anything else I should do such as a hot soapy bath and re-oil to smooth this deployment up without going any looser on the pivot?

One of the older Enduras that I have and that I use for my EDC quite often came in my possession already used: I got it from a guy who used it to try his sharpening skills, which he did not have a lot at the time. I have it for years now, and used it quite extensively, but all that time I had my doubts about if it had any washers in it. I guess the previous owner has disassembled it and then had some difficulty putting it together, so the washers fell the victims of the struggle. I have an opportunity to compare it with Enduras that I've purchased from new: so my suspicion is based on actual observation. The bottom line: it still works pretty well! The around-pivot area in Endura is really small and it does not create much resistance to a movement even without washers. The only issue: an extra amount of scratching on the blade from liners, as it could have beet expected. That would be all. So I think I could actually find a way to find the washers and put them in: but I see no reason why to bother!

I got this E4 working great now. Gave it a hot bath. Blew it dry, and just the smallest amount of thin oil on the pivot. She's slick now. This blade length feels like a sword. Not use to something this long in a folder. No regrets, but wondering if I should have bought a Delica instead. Or as many of you might say, get a Delica also.:D

I used to have several Enduras and a Delica. Now I have several Enduras. It might be my favorite Spyderco for how light, slim, long, and practical it is.

I agree, the Endura is my fav, simple design, excellent for my needs. Gary

The Endura is always in my top two Spydercos.....I have a Wave, ZDP-189 and a Super Blue. The Wave got me back into Spyderco around 2006 after years of using other brands. IMHO, the Delica and the Endura are just about perfect for EDC.

I have to agree with the Endura love. When I first got it, it just sat on the shelf because I thought about re-sale. But I've really warmed up to the way it's so light, and fits my big hands so well. I love how it rides in the pocket, so light. And it's a real slicer. I've found that it's really good at food prep. I'm still going to get a Delica in the future.
