Why is there a 10 dollar price jump between a regular endura 4 and a waved endura 4? i really want to get the waved one but i just cant see spending 10 more dollars for a chunk of metal missing/added to the blade.. also is there any other knives that compare to the endura 4 in terms of strength and reliability that are less than it? or perhaps better that aren't much more expensive?

Figured id add some pictures just so this isnt a thread with text throughout it.

The wave is an extra option. Extra options cost money. Pretty simple really

Simple explanation: Spyderco pays Emerson a royalty for using his patented Wave feature on their knives.

^What Kenix said. More features = more time and effort in production = higher cost. That said, if you google around some, you can probably find the waved one as cheap as the normal one.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the wave feature, but to each his own. In terms of comparable knives, the Endura is a classic and eventually you should get one, but if you are looking to save a few dollars and still get the basic design and utility you might want to look at the Byrd Cara Cara. I think it generally runs about half the price of the Endura.

Correct, and to answer the second part of the OP's question. The Endura and Delica are two of the best bang for you buck knives on the market in my opinion. I do not think there are many knives that are stronger or better for the price. But I do consider the benchmade griptilian to be in a similar league as the endura for a similar price. Just my opinion.

I bought the one in the top picture - it came shaving sharp and is a very nice knife at a decent price. I decided that I didn't like the look of the waved blade and I couldn't figure out why I would need or want that feature.

But my guess is that for those that want that feature they have to pay more because it has that feature, like Kenix said. Maybe yablanowitz is right to, but I have no idea of what they have to pay for each knife, so maybe it is only 50c which would make it more to do with what Kenix said.

To those familiar with defensive applications of a knife under the stress of a physical altercation, the wave feature isn't just nice to have -- it's extremely desirable. Price, in a free market, is based on the intersection of supply and demand curves.

Exactly... That was pretty obvious; first thing that popped in my mind.

If I can possibly buy a knife with the wave as an option, then I'll do it every time. Only drag is that it requires tip-up, but that's just the nature of the system.

I'm not too sure that the Endura 4 would be my first choice for use in a physical altercation - I sure don't buy knives with fighting in mind.

The Wave is a very ugly addition to a other wise great looking knife. IMO

i think it is a great addition, i waved my tenacious and i love that its there. it makes me feel safer knowing that i can get a knife out in case something bad were to happen. i read a story where there was a kid about my age (19) who was attacked by a cougar or some big cat and if he didnt have a waved endura he probably wouldnt have survived.

I have the Endura 4 with the wave. I love the option and would really recommend it, but it's ugly as hell.

i dont think the wave is ugly at all i really like it actually. now putting zipties on a spyderco for waving it that is ugly. id much rather have a real wave on it.

The Endura is well worth the money, waved or not. I like the leaf-shaped blades, so I like them as is, no finish & no features like 'waves'.

I have an Emerson CQC-10, and that's about it for waved knives for me. I was looking for a waved Endura, but I got the Emerson first. Got my "wave-craving" out of my system on that one.

Charlie mike will wave a regular endura for you !! :)

CM would wave his toothbrush if he could. I'll bet he's already tried . . . ;)

thx - cpr
