Looks like yet another in a long line of these FRN spacers on either the D4 or E4 got someone else in trouble that needs a bail out.

In this case we have two Enduras. One is missing the FRN spacer altogether and the spring, the other has the original blue spacer in it with the original lock bar but with the original blue FRN scales swapped out with black handles from a non Waved one. I can fix the spring by making a new one but I am hoping the owner just forgot to ship me it and the spacer because I don't want to make anymore of these if I can help it.

Then we have a Pacific missing a lock spring but also with the lock bar extracted. I'm not trying to embarrass the owner or anything but this is far too common with these Endura 4 and Delica 4 models. The Pacific not so much. My hope is that this post will alert others dealing with curiousity to what can occur if you get in over your head. These knives are very easy to get apart and very hard to get back together folks. They even give me fits and I've done it countless times now. I should have kept a log of just how many of these I've had because I could not count on all my toes and fingers by now.

The owner of these knives wants the Pacific and the Non Waved Endura to be Waved and the lock bar put back in with a removable barrel which will mean the blade will have to be taken out to put a removable one in it also. I am waiting to hear if I need to make new springs, and the status of the missing parts.

Here is a tip. Never take the lockbar out of a lockback without taking the blade out first and relaxing the spring tension. And if you do I hope you have safety glasses on since that spring can fling the lockbar right at you if you angle it the wrong way.

Just a friendly FYI from your neighborhood backyard mechanic.

Saved two of the three sent to me. The owner elected to pass on the third knife, the fully serrated E4 that was missing the spring holder and spring.

The Waved Endura 4 was simply put back together as described.

The Pacific was a little different. I first took the blade out, then drilled out both the blade pivot hole and lockbar for 1/8". Next the barrels for that size were cut to length, screws were cut also, and installed. Then I Waved the blade.

Witht that done the box and three knives are going home with two of the three in a little better shape than when they arrived..

Thanks Theo.
