Endura as Backpocket

I’ve been EDC’ing an Endura for the past week as a backpocket knife. I was inspired by Tony Bose’s famous Backpocket design. Basically, you carry the knife standing next to your wallet in your backpocket, blade in. Note that this does not work if you don’t wear a wallet in your back pocket because the knife will fall over and end up laying on the bottom of the pocket, and it will be uncomfortable when you sit down. It also doesn't work with a small knife as a small knife will disappear in your pocket. A backpocket knife has to be long enough to easily retrieve. I’ve been carrying the Endura this way for a week. Even though the Endura is nothing like a Tony Bose backpocket, the concept works because they are similar in length. The Endura is a BIG knife. In my opinion, too big for front pocket carry. But the backpocket carry method negates the knife's size; in fact, it turns it into an advantage. The Endura stays securely in place, and I find grabbing the knife very natural; it’s a very organic way to carry a knife.

When wallet is taken out, the knife will fall into horizontal position. Putting back the wallet can only be achieved by taking out the knife first.
Result: knife is out for everyone to see even when not needed/ to be used.

Another risk is the wallet somehow picks up the knife along when being pulled out (the wallet), resulting the knife dropping on floor, attracting attention.

This is from previous experience. What's your method?

In carry, while sitting down, walking etc. it is very secure and does not fall over; it stays put standing next to the wallet.

There is indeed a method involved for taking out your wallet. The knife does "want" to fall over when you take your wallet out. So you just scoot it out of the way slightly and make sure it's standing. Putting the wallet back does not require taking the knife out if you do it this way. You're right that it takes a little getting used to, but once you have it down, it's not an issue. I carry the knife tip down with the spyder hole bulge against the wallet, facing in.

Yes, that's one way to do it. Personally, I've adopted what I feel to be the best route I've discovered yet for carrying large folders.

I'm really not a huge fan of having pocket clips exposed to draw attention (especially not shiny ones), and so for smaller folders I will often carry just inside the pocket. For a larger folder, however, this is pretty uncomfortable. Lately I've been carrying clipped inside-the-waistband. I'm sure with some designs it would be uncomfortable, but for slimmer knives like my Spyderco Calypso, it's completely unnoticeable carrying at about 3:05 o'Clock or so. Really, to me it feels more comfortable than even clipped pocket carry.

My $0.02!

Endura too big for front pocket carry?? Really?? I carry a Spyderco Military in each front pocket, leftie on left side, all black rightie on right side. Never noticed them being too big for front pocket carry. And they are bigger than the Endura. I hate carrying knives in my back pocket. Feel they are too easy a pick pocket target, especially unclipped.

Why don't you just clip it on to your backpocket next to your wallet? IMO a clip does not draw much attention.

I agree completely. I always carry my Enduras and Militaries in the R front pocket. I too have visions of my knives being plucked from my rear pocket.

Is it just me taking this too seriously? Whilst I mean no disrespect to the OP, I find it faintly ridiculous that someone will lay claim to a specific method of carry. I happen to have tried pocket carry without the clip in front and back pockets, with and without other stuff (including a wallet).

I've found what works for me just through trial and error - I rather assumed that's what everyone has to work out...

I just do not trust things carried in back pockets anymore. After twice having my wallet handed to me by someone else, because it fell out of my back pocket while dropping a deuce, I have taken to leaving my back pockets empty save one of those things most guys don't seem to need anymore: a comb. Everything is in my front pocket, wallet included. IT's much better when seated as well, you do not feel like you are sitting on things.

For those so inclined and who like gadgets, feast your eyes on these wallets. And while they may appear bulky, they carry just fine in a front pocket. I love mine, and since showing it to others, am starting to see other's I work with using them now.
