I bought this knife from a guy who said it was new and it look to be. I cannot seem to get it as sharp using the sharpmaker as my V-G 10 and salt serrated knives. I went from the 30 angle side of the sharpmaker to the 40 angle side and it seem to get a little bit sharper, but nothing like the V-G10 steel knives. I used the fine and ultra fine rods on the sharpmaker. Is this steel a lot harder steel than VG-10? Should I send the knife back to Spyderco for sharpening? It seems to tear through a plastic bottle where my other spyderco's slice through.

G-2 is also known as GIN-1, the steel Spyderco started out with. It is usually not run quite as hard as VG-10, but it is still pretty good. I usually sharpen mine on the 40° slots of the Sharpmaker, but most of mine have seen a LOT of use.

Edit to add: the factory serrations on those were very aggressive and tend to snag and tear. After a few sharpenings the points round off a little and they cut much better.
