Hi, i decided that my next purchase is going to be the Endura or Delica by Spyderco. I now have to decide what metal i want. I want a straight blade. I know the SS versions come in the 6U metal. But would the ATS55 be better in the lightweight version? I will be using it for EDC. Thanxs for the help. What is the best on-line dealer that sells Spyderco?

I have SS and FRN in both knives you are considering. I can tell you that both have their strong points as well as draw backs. I like the FRN for the lighter weight. As im2smrt4u (which I doubt by the way :D :D ) pointed out, both of the FRN knives come in VG-10. It comes in tip-up carry only, which is fine since that is my carry mode, but it offers left or right carry which is nice for our lefty brothers. The SS models come in AUS-6 which I think is fine as steel goes. Also the provide a very strong knife that will handle a wide variety of cutting chores. The SS models offer a choice of tip-up/tip-down carry but only in right hand mode. As far the Delica vs. Endura I think you have to decide for yourself based on your needs and the "feel" of both knives. I would, however, choose the Delica. I hope this and the other posts help. Welcome.

Sorry, "FRN" and "Light-weight" are the same thing!

Thanxs. Which is better G10 or Ats55?

G10 is a fiberglass laminate. It doesn't make very good blades...:(

On the other hand, VG-10 is a very nice steel.

As far as ATS-55 goes it is not an option the SS models they come in AUS-6. As to VG-10 vs. AUS-6 both are good steels. The main reason, as I understand it, that the Spydie folks use the AUS-6 paired with the SS scales as a way to keep the cost down since the SS scales make the knife more expensive as it is. I think you will be pleased with either style blade.

I'd go for the FRN Delica. I've had mine for about 6 years and found it to be a wonderful knife. Not even sure what kind of steel for the blade. In the long run it probably makes little difference on blade steel, as Spyderco makes good stuff.

I had an Endura and it was great also, but a little too large to be discreet as I like to be.

All steel alloys offer tradeoffs, but VG-10 is generally considered to be one of the best. ATS-55 is also well-regarded, but would be rated a bit lower. AUS-6 falls well below the other two, although it still makes a decent blade.

I'd go with a FRN Delica over a similar Endura because I don't see a need for that long a blade on an EDC. The FRN is light enough to ride bottom-of-pocket in dress trousers without beating your leg to death or being clipped to something. I would, however, seek to find a Spyderco Calypso Jr. Lightweight (C52SBK) somewhere on someone's closeout list as I prefer it over my Delica for EDC. I still see them around sometimes and a Google search ought to produce a few. - Lee

musky hunter: if the law allows, I'd go for the Endura.
FRN would be the black lightweight handle version, while SS is stuck with the AUS 6 steel. It's not bad but many of the folks here (including me) have seen better steel.
In the black handled FRN version, you may find the blade be made out of ATS-55 or VG-10, I consider the VG-10 blade better.
If you want a SS handle but better than AUS 6 steel, try the stainless handled Native. The steel is AUS 10 and it's fair bit better than the AUS 6.

AUS-6 steel really ISN'T a bad steel at-all. Get the stainless plain-edge Delica, as it's a stout, nice, mid-sized folder. I have a pair of 'em, and one is one of my two EDCs...(The other being a fully-serrated Police model.).

I think i will buy one of each. The Endura and Delica. Added up it would cost less then a Benchmade. The steel is also better than the benchmade. Now where do i buy it. What is the best online dealer for Syderco? I know of Knivecenter.com Knives, ekniveworks.com, and kniveoutlet.com

Thanxs for the help.

That sounds like a plan! :D

I am certain you'll be happy with the Spydercos. They're great knives.

Everyone has their favorite dealers, but mine is Bayou Lafourche Knifeworks. Nice people, good prices, and tremendous service.
