When did they change the steel on the Endura. As some of you might know Im replacing my endura as my EDC. As I was looking around, I noticed that the blade steel on the Endura is now VG-10. My Endura is ATS-55. Im not personally familiar with VG-10. What are the advantages, and/or dissadvantages.

Hi Chris. It is our goal to always go up in steel quality (performance in edge retention, toughness & corrosion resistance) when we make a change.

VG-10 is pretty awesome steel.

The advantages are it takes a nice edge, its easy to sharpen, retains a good edge and reasonably corrosion resistant. In fact its a great middle ground between all the good values of steel. Its doesn't take the very best edge but you can still get it to razor. It doesn't hold an edge forever, but it does a pretty damn good job etc.

The disadvantage is that it tends to shatter/snap when you do really stupid things to it instead of bending. So as long as you don't use it for a heavy duty prybar, its a nice knife steel and cheaper than S30V. That said, Spydercos are actually quite thick bladed so you can probably get away with some prying...

Thanks for the reply guys, I appreciate it. Nope....No blade abuse here. The only reason I'm replacing my current Endura is because the clip has worn aw ay the surrounding material causing it to have way too much play. I've carried acombo edge Endura every day for 12 years. The first was lost when the plastic clip had broken, and was promply replaced with this one. I've looked long and hard for a replacement, and am having trouble finding what I like in a knife. I like the Military, but I dont like the fact that it actually says "MILITARY" on the blade. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about a liner lock, and since Ive carried the Endura for so long, I prefer "tip up" carry. I thought the Manix was going to fit the bill, but its too small. My hands between the knuckles and thumb where the handle would go measures ove 4 1/2", so the 4" handle of the Manix wouldnt be my idea of a good fit. Other than that, it has everyhting I like in a knife including the combo edge, lock back, and G-10 scales. If it were a little bigger, it would be my idea of a perfect replacement for my endura, and give the Military a heck of a run for its money. I would also like to see a universal clip placement on the military, as well as a no wording option. I believe I could get past the liner lock if these we not an issue. Oh well, I guess the search continues.

I was under the impression that the handle of the Manix was a little over 5 inches long.

C95 Manix
The Manix comes with full double skeletonized liners in the handle bumping strength without adding weight. Blade is double flat-ground with thumb serrations above the hole for aggressive grip and control. Outstanding ergos result from a fore-finger choil allowing you to choke up on the blade and better manipulate the cutting edge. Smooth open/close action is due to the relationship between the blade’s weight, the lock’s shape and the spring’s strength.

- CPM-S30V blade is double flat-ground
- G-10 handle with dual steel
- 14mm Spyderco Round Hole
- Ambidextrous tip-up or tip-down
- Enlarged lanyard hole
- Made in Golden, Colorado

Everything that I have seen said 3.75" blade, and 4" handle. I would love it if it turned out to be a 4" blade, and a 5" handle.
