Why is the Stretch (ZDP/FRN) so much more expensive(approx.$40.) than the Endura(ZDP/FRN)?They're both about the same size, same materials & same locks.

Thanks

Well, part of any cost is getting back all the pre-manufacturing cost (designing, handle molds, etc.), and the Endura has been out longer and has a wider audience. Also, the MSRPs are only $25 different, so some could be the market.

edit: Just checked around, and it seems more like $20-$25 difference (~$77 to ~$90), so my last point might be moot.

Tooling would be my guess.

Until the sales offset the initial costs I would imagine the price difference to remain the same.

(This is just an educated guess).

Number of possibilities. Tooling costs, as already mentioned. The contracts would have been entered into at different times. The exchange rate between the yen and dollar changes. The next runs of ZDP Enduras could cost more than the current ones. There's even a chance the two models are made by different makers, who charge different prices. Then there's the blade. Full flat grind is more labor intensive than saber.

Aside from the grind, the Stretch needs extra machining for the "scoop" out of the top of the blade and the top and bottom jimping. I think it's well worth the extra money.

:thumbup:Thanks for the answers guys.I was just wondering, not complaining.

I just bought a blue FRN/ZDP Stretch.I already have the CF version, can't wait to compare the two.
I love this design. It's weird, when I first saw it,I hated it.I thought it was so ugly. When I held it,then used it,it just started growing on me.:)

That was how I felt. I bought the original Stretch during a $50 closeout sale on a lark and have been carrying it for two years now.

Congrats on the purchase! Like you, I just bought a Stretch FRN/ZDP to join my Stretch 2 CF in my collection. I got it for only $104.95 from Tom at Spydercovt.com, he is a great guy to deal with and his prices are excellent. The Stretch 2 is a wonderful EDC, with it's great combination of tremendous ergos and excellent slicing ability. I look forward to getting the FRN model with it's lighter weight and more hand filling grip than my CF Stretch. I also like the Blue FRN. I think it is well worth the extra cash over the Endura, even if the newer Endura ZDP's have been trasitioned over to a FFG. The ergos on the Stretch and the finger choil on the Stretch just make it feel much better in the hand and better for detail work with the tip since you can choke up on it with the choil. Don't get me wrong, I really like my Kreined FFG Endura ZDP, but the ergos of the Stretch are extremely hard to beat (The Superhawk is about the only knife off the top of my head that feels better in the hand than the Stretch for me).
