Hello,

I am looking into buying my very first spydie! Obviously (and not without cause) I am excited...however :( I am in a wee bit of a dillema. I cannot decide between the endura and the delica. I want something I can carry with me, yet not be too small. Before everyone says: "Get the dang delica and stop wasting our time!" I want to hear your opinions on the endura, your personal experiences, a brief list of pros and cons, if the endura will scare the crap out of everyone...whatever you can give me! Thanks a lot guys, and remember...you are helping out a future spydie owner (" I wanna be part of the club tooo :) ")

Thx,
Sic.

I usually carry a 50/50 Endura around the house, doing normal houshold stuff. At work or going out, I carry either a plain edge Military or a fully serrated Police. I always carry a SAK Soldier. The big blades don't ever come out unless I REALLY need them. The little SAK does all the normal stuff people might see me doing, opening envelopes, prying out staples etc. The only Spyderco I found that was a little heavy for me was the Chinook. Like it, carry it occasionally, but, its kinda big, kinda chunky and just doesn't ride as well for me as the others. Go try out the Delica and the Endura. Clip it in your waistband (front and back) In your pants pocket etc. Walk, sit down and figure out the one that is most comfortable for YOU. They both can cut as well as anything you will likely ever need. Just buy one and get started...You'll wind up buying more of them anyway....

The endura was my very first quality knife. When I spent $45 I thought I was CRAZY! I really like it very much. Not too large imo. The delica will be fine too....Actually, I say Delica. Make sure to get VG 10.

A few questions to consider:

* Where do you live? (In the city or out in the country? Knife-friendly place or Boston? etc.)

* What sort of work do you do?

* And what sort of pants do you normally wear?

If you live where a large knife would be a problem, or if you work in a office and wear slacks or Dockers most of the time, I'd say a Delica would be your best bet. Otherwise, go for the Endura.

With all that said, I work in an office and never carry my Endura here. But as soon as I get home it gets clipped to my cargo shorts or in-waistband in whatever sort of pants I happen to be wearing. Love that knife! :D I recently held my Endura lightweight side-by-side with a Buck 110. The Endura's a tad longer, has better steel, weighs a fraction of the 110, and is so easy to carry that you don't even know it's in your pocket, even with shorts.

The bottom line is that you've already made a great decision, getting one or the other. Now just select the one that best suits your needs and you're all set.

(<i>One final thing to consider: If you like the Delica, you might also like the</i> Pro Grip Lightweight<i>. IMHO it's blade shape is slightly more useful for day-to-day tasks.</i>)

I find anything smaller than the Endura to be "small". Non-knife people may say the Endura is large, but they will also say the Delica is "big" too. So if you are not too worried about sheeple and/or are responsible around them, then "bigger is better". I wear mine in my suit and jeans.

If you want small, and utterly inoffensive in appearance, the Dragonfly is perfect - most people think it's "cute".

So I'd go either "large" (Endura) or small (Dragonfly). Delica is just too in the middle for me.

Cheers,

I would go for the endura , great all around knife.Between my delica and my endura , I carry and use the crap out of the endura.

The Endura was my first Spyderco back in 1992(? I think, maybe early 1993) and has been a part of my EDC since then. I bought a Delica because one person said the Endura looked scary. But I carried both, the Delica I use all the time, Endura is back-up now for tough cutting chores. :)

Blades

I'd go for the smaller Delica. The difference in size only matters if you intend to use the knife for self defense, or for tasks on the "edge" of what a folding knife is supposed to do. Less chance of getting angry looks because you have an "aggressive" knife.
Besides, they are comparatively cheap, so if you decide one day to buy the larger Endura, your only problem will then be which one to take with you for EDC. ;)

The Endura makes a great EDC. It would feel a bit large to carry if it weighed more, but it's one of my lighter knives, even compared to most of my sub 3" blades. Wears well in jeans or lighter weight dress pants.

I carried one for nearly ten years, and it's a bargain for such a solid folder.

I carry my FRN serrated Endura w/VG10 for rough cutting chores at work and play.
It is one heck of a folder for your money!
I truly appreciate its light weight, its cutting prowess and I can very comfortably carry it clipped to my jeans' coin pocket.

Too large? Nope.
Large enough? Yep.
This is my "Anything, Anywhere" knife.:p

Get the knife YOU want. Someone will freak out about your knife no matter what size it is. People have even freaked out on SAK's! For me, as long as the police are happy, my anal co-workers can kiss-off!

Note: Not all of my co-workers are anal. But the two or three that are, well ...;)

First of all, I have the Delica SE in VG-10. However, I don't have anything against the Endura. In fact, it is on my list of Spydie 'must haves';).

As far as size goes, even though it's smaller than the Endura, the Delica can and will handle any task that you may require of it. My Spyderedge has done wonders on a variety of chores both around the house and at work. It has not let me down. Plus, with that VG-10 steel it is a snap to sharpen and maintain the edge with my 204.

If you prefer a bigger blade, than the Endura is for you. However, if you choose to start out with the Delica, like I did, you will be not be disappointed either. The choice is yours, Good Luck.

P.S.-Regardless of what you choose, in time you will also eventually get your second choice too. Spydies are like Lay's potato chips...you can't stop with just one.

Beware of the Spydie virus...... :D

To echo what some others have said... The Delica is a fairly good size already, it's not really a small knife. Have you actually handled both? Which do you like better?

I know when I first tried to make this decision awhile back, I couldn't get past the fact that the Delica was only about five bucks cheaper than the Endura for what seemed to me like "less" knife. I now own two Delica's with more on the way! I think that it is a fabulous blend of "enough" size without being too big for other reasons, and a really nice style. I happen to prefer the looks of the Delica blade style. I also agree with Clint Simpson, that some people will freak no matter what knife you drag out...no point worrying about them.

Handle both, and buy the one that feels the best to you and that you like the best. Ignore the price difference, it's insignificant because whichever of these fine models you chose you are likely to use and treasure for years to come. No kidding.

As mentioned; the newest ones are available in VG-10 steel (preferable) and the Delica also comes with a blue handle if you prefer.

Cheers, Jeff/1911.

That about sums it up: the Endura is not too big for EDC, unless draconian laws forbid it (e.g. Illinois). The beauty of the clip and the thin handle is that such a large knife is easy to carry. When carried it won't look much different from a Delica. It was my first Spyderco, just last year. But you will want some of the smaller ones in the future.

look at what spyderco is offering, they're making more and more small knives. Better to get the endura, and then try one of the other small knives.

The Vesuvius is sized right between the Delica and Endura. Plus it is a tad thicker, which fills the hand better.

Blades

I have both, and prefer the endura for where there are no goofy blade limits. Its a great knife, but will scare people. But so will the delica. I only use a small sak classic in public, unless I really need a knife, then the real knives come flying out of my pocket. I think the Endura is one of the best out there in its class. You cant lose with either. They are so inexpensive you should have both. Even though I carry a lot of other knives, the lightweight spydies get a lot of pocket time.

Go with the Endura. I just ordered my first Endura, the Endura II.
I didn't have any all-SS knives so I thought I would get one. It looks like it would be a great all around blade to have in your pocket.

I have owned a Delica for yrs. I retired mine last year when I first got the knife bug all over again, replacing it with a BM 710. Small knives just don't do it for me. I want soemthing with some heft, by golly. If there are no legal restrictions in your way, always go with the bigger knife, as long as the bigger knife is not an actual whopper.
