Endura vs. Delica

I love both these knives. I have 4 different versions of the Delica and at present 3 of the Enduras.

Which one do you prefer most and why?

In earlier years, I much preferred the Delica over the Endura, but lately I've been finding the Endura to be a bit more comfortable. Unlike on the Delica, the Endura's pocket clip doesn't feel as obvious when I grip it, and I find I really like the medium-to-large size a bit better now.

Though the Delica is a perfect compromise between being large enough to handle most anything in normal everyday urban cutting and being less obvious to deploy in polite company.

Also: Has anyone bought the updated Enduras/Delicas with the David Boye locking lever dent, reinforced Zytel clip mounting, etc.?

I prefer the smaller Delica. It can be concealed in the palm of your hand, and appears less threatening than the full-size Endura. I have the SS Delica and FRN Endura.

I have a plain edge new Blue Delica and a fully serrated black 98 Endura.

Out of the two, the Delica is more Sheeple friendly and sharp as sin!

I vote for the Delica!

Jim,

I don't have a Delica, so it'd be hard for me to compare; but I do love my Enduras. As a matter of fact, one of them was my first Spyderco folder, purchased more than 10 years ago and still in excellent shape (gave it to my wife a few years ago). The other has the reversible clip which I, as a southpaw, find an improvement.

I do have a Matriarch - which, as you certainly know, has the same grip as an Endura - with the newest modifications (Boye dent and reinforced Zytel on the clip area), and I like them a lot, especially since the clips on one of my Enduras and a grey Matriarch have been almost dislodged by accidental bumps. The Boye dent is more comfortable on your thumbs, if you happen to manipulate your knives a lot (as I do).

Finally, I'm not too concerned with the sheeple; if I need a blade for some small task on a less than friendly environment (seldom happens, as a matter of fact), I just use my Leatherman Micra. The bigger folders are reserved for emergencies (even my Spydercard stays pretty much out of sight).

If I had to draw my knife in public often for cuting stuff, I'd certainly consider adding a Delica to my battery - probably a blue one, for variety's sake, with a plain edge. Should be cool for frequent travelers as well.

I carry a SS Delica as a daily task knife.

It's size is perfect for my coin pocket and very fast to deploy one-handed (the Endura's heavier blade makes it more sluggish, IME).

Only if it weren't for the sh!t AUS-6 steel the blade (on mine) is made of....
Edge dulls way too easily and ruins this near-perfect folder.

Yes a stainless steel Delica in a material like VG10 would be a must purchas!

I think of it like this:

Delica: Go anywhere, do ALMOST anything.

Endura: Go ALMOST anywhere, do anything.

A plain edge delica can go on a plane, be carried in the most liberal of settings, but the endura has that extra inch and is easier to hold on to.

General: Right on! I'd be the first to buy a stainless endura or delica with a high end bladesteel. But for now I'm sticking with FRN.

VG-10 or such sounds great on a SS-handled Endura or Delica. One of my Delicas is a SS-handled one, with plain edge. I actually like the feel of this Delica more than the FRN ones...I've started to feel the FRN ones feel slightly uncomfortable the way the clip is. Weird...used to feel comfortable, though.

The FRN Endura feels better in my hand, and the added advantage of the 2001 version, of course, being mainly the reinforced Zytel around the base of the clip. Although I haven't had a problem with the clip base stripping out, I have caught my Delica '98's clip a few times against the car door or on other things while clipped to the pocket...I readjusted it several times, but now that clip's tension feels a bit "weaker." (the clips on the SS and G-10 Spydies seem a bit thicker and more solid in themselves). Oddly, it hasn't happened to the same degree with my FRN Endura.

I like the Endura for work, and the Delica for home. The Enduras size comes in handy for my job. I have the Delica with the new lock release, and I prefer it. It is to me, more egornomic friendly. RKBA!

as much as I want a SS VG10 Delica, we have to accept it ain't gona happen any time soon. Would it be a good seller? Hard to say. Most people are happy with 420HC never mind 6a or Heaven forbid a steel like VG-10 or even BG-42!

I am still somewhat amazed Spyderco took the risk of making knives in CPM 440V.

Lets just hope they get round to updating to CPM 420V! Hint hint Sal!

I like the tip-down G-10 standard. My PE one has a one side steel scale and seems as solid as the wegner.

The G-10 is very grippy and is resistant to bending and all sorts of abuse.

The SS one has AUS-6 which I feel is a bit soft.

Both the SS and FRN ones have a handle shape different from the standard, which is rounded at the butt end to cover the blade tip and be comfy for tip down. The SS and FRN are flat at the butt, I think, to facilitate easy access/drawing from the tip-up position. This makes the 2-option SS not so suitable for tip down as if the blade pops out just a bit, it can poke you.

Incidentally, a high-end endura is a military, I think......
