I've owned numerous spyderco's over the years. I just got a new stretch. I think it will make a great edc. Has just what I was looking for. Blade large enough to cut any thing I am having for lunch and light weight. Now I want to add a heavier use folder. What can the military or police do that the endura can't? I like the endura because of the back locking mech and I prefer the tip design it has versus the more easily damaged fine tip of the police. Tell me if I am missing something? Thanks

"why should I get a military" is probably the most common quetion I've seen on this forum. Simply, just buy one to see what we are all talking about.

That is probably the best answer, simple and straight forward. If you want a "heavy/hard use" folder, do yourself a favor and try a Gayle Bradley, you will not regret it. That knife can do just about everything the Military/Police/Endura can do 10x over and still retain a super edge.

The Endura in its most recent iteration is not a great cutter, although the blade is quite stout. Grinds are just too thick. The Military cuts incredibly well due to the very tall, flat ground blade. If I had to use one to open a paint can, it would be the Endura. To slice up some potatoes or cardboard boxes? The Military.

That is true.. It seems counter-intuitive though, being named "Military". :p

I have a Military and a G10 Endura with FFG blade. The Military is a bit longer (blade and handle) and thicker (blade and handle) than the Endudra, but the Military is slightly lighter (0.2 oz)

Both are good knives. IMO, quality is a wash. I find the Endura is a bit easier to carry (slightly thinner and 1/2" shorter handle), and only gives up 1/4" of blade. With a thinner FFG blade than the Military, it cuts at least as well as the Military.

There's no better food prep knife than a Millie....

What can the Police do that the Military or Endura can't? If you live in Kansas, the answer is "get you arrested for carrying a concealed deadly weapon". But I like it anyway. ;)

I prefer the Military over a Police and Endura for a few reasons.
- 4mm thick S30V. Those other two blades are good steel, but they are not as tough or wear resistant as the Millie's blade. Spyderco does a mean job on their S30V.
- The Military has a little negative blade angle, unlike the Police or Endura. I find this helps ergos and cutting.
- I prefer having a choil.
- The Military has a handle and Spydie hole perfect for gloves or bare hands, this knife will always be easy to use.
- Flow through construction. If this is a work knife, this is a huge advantage.
- Finally, I really like liner locks and am completely nonplussed by back locks. Strong detents for life.

Edit: Just realized how old this thread is, damn. Not important anymore.

Nice. :D

For what it's worth, the Military is one of the finest folders available at any price. The Endura is nice, but I think that the Military is in a whole new world. I'm a fixed blade kind of guy now, but the Millie still always finds its way into my pocket.

You won't understand until you get one.

You already stated you like the back lock on the Endura. I do as well.

My vote goes to the Endura, you can also get it in a FFG blade if you like.

Vin

The Military is just a step above the other two knives IMO.

The question should have been..... Is there a reason not to get a Military?

The Military is pure performance, not many knives out there will cut and slice as well, it's strong, light enough, very light for it's size, easy to carry, fits great in hand.

For the money there isn't a better folder on the market if you want a 4" blade that will just plain cut like crazy. :)

In a three way horse race involving the Endura the Mil and the Police, I have a clear favorite (having owned and used all of the above). The Mil is my hands down favorite between the three mentioned. All of 'em are good knives. Especially now that the Endura is in it's fourth generation and fully rebuildable with four way clip mounting, etc. Those improvements make the Endura take a giant leap up the ladder but it still falls short of the absolute perfection of the Mil. The Endura4 is my alternate recommendation to folks that want but can't afford a Mil. Enduras can be found on the internet (at various gun related forums) slightly used on the cheap. Check the sale forums over at Glock Talk and the High Road. And AR15. But I digress. Choosing between these three knives is sort of like a freezing person having to choose between three different colored blankets. Just get one. They're all good! Better yet, get 'em all. :D There's really no way to lose. I had a Police before I had the other two. It was my very first Spydie so my familiarity with that model is written in stone. My only beef with the Police is the sheer weight of the thing. Lighten up Francis! :)

Adding a little value to the old thread. Endura3 and Orange Millie.
The hollowground saber E3 isn't that bad a slicer.
