Endura - Wave or Ziptie? Thoughts.

I am purchasing an Endura soon and am caught between buying the Endura Wave or the normal flat grind model. I love the flat grind Spyderco does, but which is better for normal tasks, the ziptie wave mod on the flat grind or the Factory Wave with the saber grind? Versatility is what I am after - not self defense. What do you think?

Get the wave if you want to wave the knife. Saber grind isn't going to cut as well as ffg, but that knife will be more versatile in my opinion.

Also, there are reasons to wave besides SD. I find it useful when my hands or full or I need something cut fast. It's also addictive.

My .02 worth.

Depends. I have both.
The wave is fun for sure, does double as a bottle opener. It has a nice big hook, that opens the knife very reliably. If you really like the wave and want a more heavy duty blade, get the wave sabre. It is a pretty thick blade to put a sabre grind on, solid 3 mm. If you're gonna do any sort of wedging and prying the waved model is probably for you.
I personally use the FFG the most though (or always, really), that edge really has a nice clean cut to it. I don't mind thumb opening or two hand opening for that matter. I also don't use pocket clips anymore.

But again, ask yourself what you really are gonna do with the knife and make a decision.

I would get the waved. Not only can it open bottles but the tip on the waved model is MUCH more capable of any light prying. The sabre ground blade cuts just fine. While ffg does cut better the sabre grind is in no way lacking. I have no problem cutting with it. I think the waved Endura is one of the best made knives of all time. It is a go to real user knife for me it is just such a solid knife and blade shape.

I am definitely leaning more towards the factory waved Endura. I think the extra stability of the sabre grind, and the usability of the wave as a bottle opener will come in handy! Definitely adds some intrinsic value as well.

I have all sorts of the Endura. The Emerson wave version has a saber grind as apposed to the full flat grind (FFG). The saber grind slices fine, but is a bit stronger then the FFG, all the way to the point. If I wanted the knife for the wave function, I would get one already made for it. I have done the zip tie mods and, if done right, they work fine too. Eventually, I always end out removing the zip ties. For my wave equipped knives, I usually wave them forward for reliability.
