Engineers: Is ABET Certification of Any Value?

I'm trying to get back on the horse. With a family and a mortgage I'm going back to school to finish my BS in Industrial Engineering.

As I'm sure there are more than a couple of PE's here...

The question. I can probably finish in a year with a program from a local NON-ABET certified college vs. two years maybe more from another local ABET Certified institution.

As attending a NON-ABET college was never an issue I never looked into what that certification was worth in the real world.

What has been your experience? Will it affect your job prospects if you don't have that 'check mark' in your educational background?

Is it really going to make a difference once out in the job market?

I await your replies.

Thank you.

Without ABET, you're not an engineer.

When I review resume's, if the school wasn't ABET-acreditted, then I don't count the degree.

At my company the difference is about 15K starting going up to 45K at 15-20 years. Gollnick was right on the money, no ABET, No Engineering recognition. Steven

Even with a trade school only attend those that are certified by the state ! Don't approach education to get the minimum .

I sure appreciate your responses guys.

Let me clear something up. I should have typed ABET Accredited Program, not certified.

The school has the Middle States Assoc.(US) and local state certifications is just that the IE program is not ABET Accredited.

I can take the (local) state board exam and get my PE credentials and even the ABET page is somewhat unclear as it says 'many' states require the accredited program.

I just wanted to clear that up, even thou I'm sure those of you in engineering answered what I meant to ask, not what I typed :) .

I guess it's 'Miles to go, before I sleep'. There is no free lunch.

I thank you again for your responses.
