Ok here is something you probably dont see every day. I could use some help though. I am currently doing a paper over William Shakespeare's The Taming Of The Shrew and I need to know the characteristics of English/Italian comedies. I have been to google, yahoo, and even Wikipedia and nothing has gotten me the answer I am looking for. Just for those of you who might be able to help there is a difference between what I am looking for and Commedia dell' arte which I have found plenty of info on. If you have any iformation regarding this subject please let me know. Thanks.

You're asking for characteristics in the theater rather than movies and the Shakespeare /Commedia dell'Arte time period ? It's been so long since I've seen Commedia dell'Arte but perhaps I'd call it 'slapstick' while the Shrew would be 'crazyness' If that makes any sense. The most recent Shrew movie was excellent.

Did you try doing a search for English Comedy separately from a search of Italian Comedy on google or other favorite search engine?

For English Comedy, one of the first hits that'll come up on google is
http://www.bartleby.com/215/index.html

That alone could keep you busy for a few days. ;)
