I have inherited a Buck Kaalinga with the black handle. The brass hilt has been engraved with scrolling like you would see on an expensive shotgun. It looks like it was expertly done. I was wondering if Buck ever produced any engraved Kalingas or if this was done in their custom shop.

Surprised no one has answered you yet... May mean they aren't sure and just not saying anything till the ones in the know come along.

I will say that if Buck did the engraving, it would have been done in the custom shop. But most engraving I have seen has been someone other than Buck.

Am sure the experts will be along soon.

Oh yeah....if you can, put up a pic.... If you can't put up a pic, send me the knife and I will send back some high quality 8x10 pics of it......:)

How about some pictures.I need to see the blade stamp.
I haven't seen an engraved hilt on a Kalinga.....doesn't mean Buck didn't have it done.
There is a deep etched Kalinga blade done by Arum etching in 1976(?)
similar etching but deeper than the Spirt of 76' in 1976.
It came in a wooden presentation box with the Kalinga, Akuona,110 and 112 all deep etched(can't remember the scene that is on the blades)

I don't know about the engraving but I can tell you from personal experience that the Kalinga is far and away one of the best field dressing knives for big game that I've ever used. It goes right through a deer as effortless as is humanly possible. Great design that one.

I didn't say anything because I've never seen an expensive shotgun... :(

...And some low life stole my Ithaca 16 ga from my best friend back in 1971, while I was fighting the Godless Commies (mostly mosquitoes) on Okinawa... :grumpy:
