I finished this Delica 4 CE last week, for a customer, and thought I would share it with you guys. It's American style scroll with a relieved and stippled background. Please feel free to comment. Thanks.

Beautiful work! The design is a bit feminine for my tastes. It looks painted on in the picture. Is it both engraved and painted? Very nicely done and it compliments the knife well.

Lurker, thanks. After all of the work was done, I filled the cuts in with ink. It helps the engraving stand out and shows up better in photographs.

I'm working on a couple of knives that are going to have iron crosses and flames. There will also be some tribal stuff later on.

One other comment I have is that if the engraving is deep enough to add some noticeable texture to the knife, and if you enlarged the design a bit so that it covers even more of the handle slab (reduce the boarder width to half or a third of what it is now) then you would also be maximizing grippiness where it was once a bit slippery. Both attractive and functional.

A tribal pattern sounds neat. I think it would also be cool to have a pattern based on the Southwest indian stone carvings or a geometric Inca pattern.

The engraving looks really sexy. I wish that you had a macro to see how crispy and beautiful it looks close up, but given what we can see, it's great.

That said: The screw holes for the clip take what would have been a 9 and make it a 7. The screw holes just don't work with the overall look of the knife now and it's a shame. If you could find some way to engrave around them and disguise them it would be amazing, or if the scales only had holes for right-hand carry it would be great, but alas, it's a 4-way clip, and it just doesn't look quite right.

Thanks for your comments guys.

Lurker, I have done a couple with larger scrolls and relieved backgrounds. They did have a good deal more traction than the smooth slabs. I also like your idea about the Southwest style art work, I'm going to have to play around with that.

the_mac, Thank you.
I know what you mean about the screw holes. My hope was that the scroll work would draw the attention away from them. I can come up with a design that covers the holes but it has to be a 100% coverage job to look good and that much work wasn't in the budget for this one. The Delica 3 only has holes on one side but they've been discontinued and the customer only had the 4.
All in all, though, I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.
