I have never been much of a knifenut despite being a very outdoorsy, capable person. Recently that all changed, the bug bit me and hung on tight.
I was shopping for a knife to give to my girlfriend, I was originally looking for something classic, wooden handled but as soon as I held the Kershaw Leek I knew it was the one. I fell in love with the elegant simplicity, precise engineering, and satisfying snik.
I continued to be amazed when I investigated the company and found them to have an unparalleled dedication to customer satisfaction. to say I was sold is an understatement.
Questions:
Engraving:
I plan on getting the leek 1660 (silver, bead-blasted). Do you guys have any recommendations for long lasting engraving? I don't think I have the budget for laser etching (unless it's cheaper than I expect.) Any good or bad experiences with particular types of engraving on 440 steel?
Blade steel:
This is a question for Thomas W. mostly. I know you can't give a precise date for the switchover to the sanvik, but I'm going to meet my girlfriend in backcountry Utah on Aug. 3rd and I need to have the knife by then. I'd rather get the new steel if I can. Can you give me a: it's possible/not gonna happen, get it now so you can play with it until then?
Distributors:
Two places seem to have prices significantly lower than anywhere else. TheBladeShop and The Kershaw Store. Are these both reliable distributors? Any reason to go with one above the other (more reliable, more profit goes to Kershaw, etc.)?
Thanks for your help everyone, I'm happy to have found this new community.
