Is there anything about the process of engraving that might be grounds to void the Busse warranty should one ever need it? What about a stamp or an etch? I just don't know enough about these processes to even make a guess.

O_T_E,
Sounds like a question for Jerry and/or Garth. I would assume that if the engraving were no deeper than that used on the Busse logos that it would not void the warranty. A stamp like Randall Made's might slightly effect the hardness of the blade at and very near the stamp (strain hardening of the metal) and etching is a chemical process that may well significantly effect the alloy depending upon the chemicals used but all these are just SWAGs. From the lack of response from the community, I would suggest calling the the Shop and getting your answers from those who know. Of course, if you have the Shop do it, there won't be any warranty questions. Bit curious myself. Pete

Thanks for the reply, Pete. I took the lack of response to mean that nobody really did have any experience with it, at least nobody who has seen the thread. I think you are right though. Maybe going direct is the way to do it.

I'll offer some views, first of all I really doubt that you are going to be able to stamp the blade after heat treat, it is just too hard. The only things that will work after heat treat are laser ingraving (what Busse does on their logo), or chem etch, both are what knife makers use now days.

Are you saying in a roundabout way that you do NOT think that either would impact the warranty? I mean, if Busse does it, then why would that impact the warranty if it was done by someone else? I know that a lot of custom makers will use a chemical etch for their maker's mark. It does not seem to adversely impact lesser steels, so I wonder why it would adversely impact INFI? Just thinking out loud here, but if you have an opinion, I'd love to hear it.

Since it is not my company, I'm not saying anything as far as if it would be covered by the warranty, you really need to contact Busse and tell them what you want to do and ask them to comment.
