I don't know if this has been addressed in the past (apologies if it has), but how much would it cost to have a name placed on a blade? Would it depend on the type of blade?

One of my squadmates will be married soon, and both he and his intended like knives. I'd love to be able to get a nice kuk with both their names for them to hang above the mantle.

I don't know what the cost is but, almost any jewler can get something engraved for you. I assume they charge by the letter or lines. Call any jewelry store and I'm sure they can give you the information that you seek. or steer you in the right direction. :)

Doh!

Good idea, thanks.

Actually a place that makes trophies might be better and less costly than a jeweler.
The problem may lay with getting steel engraved because it's harder than the normal brass or other soft metal. Might not hurt to ask though.;)
The Newaris in Nepal can and do beautiful engraving.(Bura, I think, also does a little?), thinking of the Royal Banspati here.)
The Millennium Special with its three roses and the words Millennium 3 and Peace on each side also came out very lovely.
Proof that they can engrave steel.:)

With Sanu gone, I wonder when we'll get another batch of 18th Centuries. Engraving by forging it into the side of the blade is something rarely seen done other than by Sanu. Have to go fondle Surya, Chandra, Tara ( Sun, Moon, and Stars ) and don't blame me for the name - it was the kamis who gave it the name. All I've ever done with it was pull it out of the scabbard, and feel like Arthur Pendragon holding Excaliber!

I had a BAS engraved with my son's name by a local engraver a few years ago. I started out by asking jewelers and they referred me to this guy. Unfortunately I've forgotton the cost, but it wasn't too bad. He didn't have any problem engraving the steel.

Re: Engraving

If all else fails, check with your local gunsmith. You might want some floral or leafy embellishments surrounding the names.

Thanks for all the good ideas. I was thinking that something like a 25" Kobra would be about the ticket. :)
