I am thinking about purchasing a Spyderco SS Cricket / Kiwi / Lava and getting it engraved, but I don't know how practical that would be. Can anyone tell me what an approximate price range for that might be and perhaps some engravers?

Also, I looked on Bladegallery and found this engraving on a Yoshindo Yoshihara sword: http://www.bladegallery.com/shopexd.asp?id=4257&photo=8&size=b&websess=25041433701334

Yes, I am *quite* aware that Yoshihara is a great master and I am not asking for something of that caliber, but I found myself really liking that style of engraving so I wondered anyone knows of engravers (in the US or elsewhere) who do work of this style?

Lest Cliff accuse me of advertising here, I must first state that I am not interested in engraving your knife.
I am a hand engraver, among other things. My rate works out to be about $50 per square inch. I do not know what others charge.
I can tell you that the material to be engraved can run the price up, or even make the piece unengravable. Hard stainless and anodized aluminum present the most difficulties. Hardened blades are engravable by machine only, and even then not very deeply. Laser etching is a possibility for these materials.

OK, thanks Bill. Anyone have more information? How about engraving vs. etching? All suggestions welcome.

Look up "engraving" in the Philly phone book. Look for one that does laser engraving. The designs are done on computer, so most anything is possible.
Iwould bet there are a couple of good hand engravers up there, too.
