Enlarging leather sheaths to fit?

I have a couple of Kabar leather sheaths ( brand new) that I'm using for other knives. The opening is slightly tight for the blade . I was thinking of wetting the sheaths and putting my wrapped blade in it and let it dry slowly to fit. Would that be a bad idea? I do plan on treating them with Sno-seal afterwards.
I would like any suggestions if you have them.
Thanks:)

That may work, but first....

If it's "slightly tight" as you say, first wrap the knife in a layer or two of plastic, ram it home (in a dry sheath) and let it set over-night, sometimes that will do it.

Kiwa, it is true that leather when dampened will stretch, but often not to the amount that you might need. As versatile as leather can be, good quality leather resists stretching and the minimal dimensions (usually less than a two inchs of sheath width) will not stretch much. If you need about an eigth of an inch---go for it, if more than that seek a different solution. ---Sandy---
