*sigh* Traditionals... Who ever would have though that the majority of the knives I'd have bought in 2015 so far would be slip joints? Maybe not the majority but it feels like it...
Enrique is a good due out of Laredo, Tejas... And MAN can he make a knife... He's been on my radar ever since I saw the Ti Slipjoint that he made Brad Blount, and I jumped on his list not long after... And well... my time had come...
Specs:
Blade: 3" with a 2.75" cutting edge
OAL: 7"
Closed: 4"
Steel: Devin Thomas Ladder Damascus (iirc)
Weight: 3.8oz (not counting the matching jigged bead)
Badassery Level: XX+
The first thing that struck me when I received this slip joint was it's size. A 4" slippy is a big knife for the form factor. I have realized that when it comes to traditionals I prefer larger knives. The next thing that jumps out is the heft, the solid Ti/Steel construction makes it stand out when compared with other more traditional slip joint builds.
The blade is beautiful with etched bevels and satin flats, it's ground evenly and very thin with a WICKED edge on it. The attention to detail is perfect, and the subtleties are really neat. For example you can see the damascus pattern inside of the thumb nick.
Closed the jigging is mesmerizing, done by hand, and done perfectly. Enrique uses a carbide file to flute the handle as well. All of this is then pushed over the top by the inclusion of a matching jigged Ti bead. Well done Mr. Pena.
I have a brown sharkskin pouch that I was using to carry a different knife that I no longer have, the Lanny's fits perfectly into it creating an ideal carry package. I really couldn't ask for a better way to carry this knife.
Anyway, I hope you all dig it, it's fantastic... If you EVER see a knife available from Enrique, don't think, don't hesitate, just BUY.
