Well, I've been using my Fire Warden daily as an EDC and for me, it's the perfect blade length for a fixed blade EDC. Lately, I've noticed that the grip has been slipping when I've been using it, especially if my hands are cold or extremely dry (i.e. dusty). The handle was just way too smooth for me, so I decided to modify it. I really like the grip on my BIBB, so I decided to go for something like that.

For something I did at work, and didn't spend too much time on the details, I think it came out pretty good. :D Definately a lot grippier now. I may get into the fine details and clean it up later, but for now, it's exactly what I was looking to achieve.

Let me know what you think. (edit: and please excuse the dates, I still haven't gotten around to fixing it on the camera)

Dan,
Your handle grooves are nice, even, symetrical, and parallel. The grooves generalls look very good to me, but I do not like them ground into the handle rivets. I think it would look much better it you could drill out the rivets, countersink them a bit deeper, and re-install them.

I do like your knife. Good size for EDC.

I completely agree, but I think that is beyond my scope at this point. I just did these by hand in about an hour at work. (When no one was looking of course ;) )

I would love to countersink, and re-rivet the handles. I don't know how I would rivet new ones in though. Don't the factory guys use something like a 10,000 lb press?

Looks really well done. I agree that grinding the grooves through the rivets isn't the prettiest thing - but as long as there are no sharp edges to catch on I'm OK with it. Probably made the job a lot easier not taking them out. \

Thanks for the pics.

looks great, can i send you one of mine for this treatment? :)

what type of drill/router did you use? and how did you keep them so even and symmetrical? fantastic work!!!!!!!!!!

THAT IS BAD!!! Nice work! :D Now all you need is to replace the tube fasteners with some slotted screws and you've got THE best GW out there!

That is awesome!!
I wonder what it would look like if you ground the tubes down to an uniform spot?

Thanks guys. Actually, I did it by hand with round files. Since it was mine, it was kind of a quick and dirty way of doing it. If I took a little more time with it, it'd be nicer. I just need to replace the rivets somehow. I think if those were replaced, it'd look better. I may try those slotted rivets. Any one hae any other ideas I could try?

I like it, it looks nice, BUT instead of making the handle grippier, I usually prefer to make it more ergonomic to my liking. Someone already did that........... I'm not sure if I can find the thread.
Oh, and it really does look great! The rivets don't bother me.

Although I like your work I don’t know if it would be necessary.

Skunk says my grips would work better if I’d be sure to clean the lube off of my palms.
