This is the continuation of the thread in the General forum archive. There is no need to repost any of your posts from that thread.

Tom Walz, of Carbide Processors (Makers of Talonite), has joined us in celebration of our 100,000,000 hit!

In the spirit of the celebration, Tom has offered not one, but two awesome knives!

The second knife will be a custom knife made by a custom maker (to be named later) using Talonite supplied by Tom. This knife will be given away, by way of a cool contest.

Here is how it will work.

Each member is asked to submit a design. At the end of the contest, Friday, March 31st 2000, we will announce the winning design. All entries must be in by the 28th. We will then submit the designs to a board of members who will choose the winner. The winning design and the Talonite will be sent to a maker and the knife will be made to the winning designers specs. Then the winning designer will get the knife! Who knows, if the design is really cool you may see it go into production!

We will accept designs in the form of hand drawings, detailed descriptions or any computer aided drawing. I can see Jim March is already getting ready

Mike, I already started a "design thread continuation" in this forum. There's already some commentary on Talonite in it, and two designs.

How about you delete this thread and post the "official continuation" text above in that other thread? Sorry if I overstepped in creating it but...doing two threads here will cause nothing but confusion.

Nice design Otha!!!

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Here are my entries again.

The above knife has a 4" handle and a 4" - 6" blade.

The dimensions on both can be changed a little based on need.

Here are my entries:

My original entry-

A more conventional little brother-

The ergonimic handles have a "saddle-back" design for a stronger reverse grip. Each scale will be made from two laminated pieces of G-10, the outer black piece is placed over a contrasting color, so that when shaped will reveal the silhouette of a raven or blackbird in the handle. The handle is then bead-blasted for a better grip. The Raven has a shallow hollow grind on the recurve portion of the blade and the tip has a flat grind for strength. The Blackbird has a flat or shallow hollow grind. The blade thickness on each is 5/32". Both knives are designed for general utility but the Raven has a more tactical purpose than the Blackbird.
