Has anybody tried one of these? I don't have any decent fixed blades and I'm looking for something to carry on hikes this summer.I don't have a problem with 440C and I really like the overall look of the badger.

I've see prices for these between $75 and $105 at various on-line stores. What else in this price range should I be considering?

I have the Survivor. Like the sheath, like the handle, and it's an ok nice in many respects, but very thick, and a little heavy. Doesn't cut too great. I envision it more as an urban survival tool, as a decent SWAT team or EOD knife or some such, than a wilderness one.

My 2 cents,

I think the Entrek line isa very good value. They are all handmade by Ray Ennis, who is a very nice guy, he taught me everything I know about knifemaking that I didn't learn from bladeforums. The only complaint I have seen from people is that the sheaths are a little primative, and some of the blades are too thick for some people's liking. I have three entrek knives, and I like them all. The hollow grinds are high enough, that the thicker blade stock doesn't seem like a problem for me.

You might want to take a look at the BK&T line, they are a little below that price point and offer a great knife for the price. Also take a look at Cold Steel, the SRK is great for hiking/backpacking.

See if you can find a Marbles in 52100. They have a lot of models in that price range and they are great slicers.

I seem to remember somewhere that Ray Ennis was apprenticed or worked with Jerry Busse in the past. You might go to the Busse forum to ask about that. As far as the knives, I haven't handled one yet, so can't enlighten you.

TorzJohnson -

If you are still considering the Entrek Badger, check the price at Dirt Cheap Knives. Their price is alot less than $75.

I picked up an Entrek "Scout" at a gun/knife show a year or so ago for about half retail. I recontoured the final edge grind and polished out some of the bead blast with a "rust eraser" from AGRussell and ended up with a keeper. Not too heavy, with a 6.5" slim clip point to accompany me on my bike rides through "enemy territory", (The local mountain style park). I have an old PAL leather sheath that fits it, so the primitive that came with it is not an issue.

Hello Torz,

I am finding Dirt Cheap Knives (www.dirtcheapknives.com) has the best price around on most any factory knife I check. Also, the owner has gone to great lengths to find a Marble's Ideal I ordered. The Marble's knives are very hard to get by internet dealers.

Dirt Cheap Knives has the best prices and great customer service - I don't think you will find a better knife dealer.

Dirt Cheap has it for $62? Wow!

You cannot go wrong with Entrek, you will want a better sheath, and I suggest the Companion or Cobra if you want a slightly bigger blade. Owned a Companion for a long time, never rusted after running miles and miles sweating buckets that corrode BG42 or ATS in half an hour.
