Entrek general consensus.

Hey guys, just picked up a new Entrek, and though not overly happy with some cosmetic issues, it seems to be a nice design and sturdy knife. Also, after talking to Ennis he seems to back his products under any use, abuse or otherwise. What do you guys think? Haven't gotten to use it so I'm curious of the general consensus. Thanks.

I have one. Haven't used it, but I think you pretty much summed it up.

I have ever owned one but from what I have read, they have a spot on heat treat for 440C.

My Entrek cobra has been my EDC for about 8 years now. I've been very happy with it.

What are the cosmetic issues you mentioned? Also, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? I paid $135 for mine, but that was about 9 years ago.

I recieved it in a trade, but it's an older model with no jimping, and the cosmetic flaws were it had pitting near the lanyard hole, as well as a nasty looking wear mark(hopefulyl from the sheath) on the blade. Ennis said he'd fix both problems and make me a new sheath at no charge though.

I thought you meant that it had issues straight from the factory/brand new.
Sounds like they're backing their product alright.
Ive noticed them for years, but never jumped because of the steel used and the inflated price.
Oddly, I've also never really heard anything about them either.
Anyone else have user experience or a quick review?

Well, I can assure you if this was truly out of box, it came extremely sharp. It also feels nice and sturdy, the micarta makes for an extremely ergonomic grip, and the shape of the cobra is great. Their 440c is supposedly as good as it gets. I like the Cobra since it reminds me of a miniature(and EDC-able) "combat knife".

I wouldn't say they're badly priced, as if I understood Ennis correctly they're all hand-ground and nicely done.

Still don't understand why you didn't trade that one back...
I've never owned an Entrek, but here's what most owners think of them, judging from internet reviews, e.t.c:
The general consensus among Entrek owners is that the knives are great, and extremely underrated. The only complaint I've ever heard, (once or twice,) was about the sheaths, and they fixed that years ago. Entrek's HT of 440C is probably the best on the market, so much so that some people actually doubt that it's even 440C. There may be others who're as good with their HT, but I've yet to hear of them. The knives are tough, and hold an edge even through hard use and abuse. Customer service is up there with the best.

Youtube reviews. Cutlerylover has a pretty good one, it's right at the top. Long, though.

BladeForums reviews. If you can find a single negative impression among all of these, you're more observant than I am. And that goes for the videos, too.

I might've, but with their warranty and complete willingness to pretty much fix any problems you have and let you do whatever you want with it, it's hard to give up. I even asked if they could add jimping(older model without it), and they said they could for about $25 or that I could do it myself and it wouldn't hinder my warranty.

Also, again if I'm taking their warranty correctly, they will replace the knife even if it gets worn out from heavy use, not just from defects.

I meant trade the knife back to the guy who sent you a defective knife, sell whatever you got back, and then use the money to buy an Entrek. You seem to think I was suggesting that you should give up on the company; I was thinking the opposite. Give up on the guy you traded with. Entrek shouldn't have to pay for the dishonesty of the seller/trader.

As for the price of Entrek knives, as already stated, they are hand made, and made in the USA. If they were mass-produced in China by people making one dollar a day, I imagine they would be a lot cheaper. I for one am glad they're not a lot cheaper.

I've never utilized the Entrek warranty but it sounds like Mr. Ennis is a great guy. It's nice to know that a great knife is backed by a great guy. That's worth more than a few bucks to me right there.

I agree. Plus you can find some designs from them sub-$100. They have a really sexy curved tanto I was looking at for slightly under. I fill admit there are fit and finish issues, but they make up for it in ability. Plus, it's nothing some sandpaper can't fix.

Outstanding knives, terrible sheaths. That said, sheaths are replacable. The one thing I will say is that Entreks have handles that tend towards the small side, and having large hands I sometimes wish they didn't.

I can see the small handle thing. For the Cobra it seems to be just a little small, but for the most part perfect. I think I may get some g10 scales, made to the same ergonomics but slightly thicker, and then have a quality kydex made.

I wrap the handle of my cobra with a wide strip of bicycle innertube. Not only does it increase the girth of the handle but it also provides an incredible grip. I do this with all my fixed-blade knives.

Pretty good, but I hate beadblast finishes. They are rust magnets and they scratch easily. I gave my Merc a hand satin finish, though unfortunately I somewhat rounded the plungelines.
