Does anyone else carry this brand of knife? I got one awhile back and it seems to be a good knife, and decently priced. I was wondering why this brand of knife is not as popular as some other brands of the same type. Don't worry about hurting my feelings if it is a piece. Also this is my first post and I would like to say that I have learned alot from this forum, and thanks.

Welcome to BF.

I've had a couple of Entrek knives - a Badger & a Javalina - & they were both very impressive. Great fit & finish. Razor sharp out of the box. Semi-custom quality.

I sold them only because they were replaced by custom knives.

As for why they're not as popular as some other brands? I can only speculate that it's due to not much marketing/advertising,
and a relatively high price for a blade steel (440C) that's excellent but not a "super steel".

They are well made knives, but just not as fashionable as other makes. He has stuck with 440C that isn't as trendy as some of the other steels. I had a Javalina and I'm sorry I sold it--- went chasing other windmills :) You'll wear out before the Entrek does.

Yeah, this seems to be the same things I've read everywhere else. I kind of like to hear what everyone else has to say about the things I like and buy. I chose the Entrek jag over the Rat rc-4 just because of looks, ha. I guess I'm just trying to justify the knife I bought. For what I will use it for, anything would of worked. Thanks for the replies.

I have a JAG and a Cobra and I love them. 440C was the first "super steel" alot of years ago and Ray Ennis never felt the need to change. Mine perform as well as any knife I own. Honestly, I can't tell the difference between my S30V, 154CM, 3V,440C, and ATS34 blades as far as edge retention. They all are outstanding. I think the reason they are not as popular is the fact they are not flashy and pretty. They are no-nonsense hard use knives. Ennis hand grinds and finishes the blades and the micarta scales. They are closer to custom than production and they are made in the U.S.A. . His sheaths are much better today than they were a few years ago, but still a bit thin. As far a price goes, you can find them at significant discounts online and I think the price is a bit low for the quality and fit and finish. Just my 2 cents worth..Jim

I have one of his large tantos with the older, more primitive sheath. The handle is a bit small for some, but my hands aren't too large for it. It is a sturdy and durable knife. As others have said, I think Ray's 440C performs well but hurts the market appeal.

Don't worry, you definitely do not have a POS! And welcome aboard.

Ray Ennis makes these knives himself. The are truly "custom" knives in the strictest definition of this word used by the knife community. They are of the more plain, user ilk, just the way I like them. I am not interested in "pretty" knives for military or woods use. I've owned three over the years, currently have one, and just bought a Javalina for my son to use for backpacking in sourthern Utah.

The heat treat on the Entrek 440C steel is excentley done. I had a Cobra that was indestructible. I plan to replace it, but only after I pick up a Force Recon first.
