Well, I’m six months late, but I just found out that Ray Ennis, founder of Entrek Knives, passed away in January. Damn shame. He did quality work and had away with 440C like no other. I had noticed his website vanished, but figured he’d finally just fully retired. I know he had health problems years ago and had semi retired, producing only a few knives a year. Here are a few knives I got from him, all quality goods. Anyone who’s got pics of their Entrek blades, post ‘em for dear old Ray.

Here's my Entrek Cobra, and a little story to go with it.

I was looking for a small, stout fixed-blade for work and daily carry, and after a lengthy search settled on the Entrek Cobra (online price $135.). But I have a tendency to deliberate purchases for a long time, a result of growing up poor. And I just couldn't get myself to the point of pulling the trigger.

Then one day my girlfriend and I were at a shopping mall, and my gf wanted to buy some candles from a candle store. I was not at all interested in candles, and she had to smell every last one. But right across the way from the candle shop was a knife store, so I told her I was going over to browse.

I never would have expected to find an Entrek in a mall knife store, but not only did they have one, as chance would have it, it was a Cobra, and it was $135, just like online. I saw it as a "sign", and without a moment of further deliberation I bought it on the spot.

The knife served me well. I carried it for a few years at work (shipping dock), using it to cut all manner of things, and sometimes prying the lids off wooden packing crates, before I switched to a larger knife.
