I noticed that lately Entrek knives aren't mentioned anymore or quite seldom.
I don't have one, but I always thought they where a good value for their price.
You can see them as the stainless versions of the (ontatrio) rats.

How comes? :foot:

They've never had an enormous following here, but the general concensus is that they're well made, solid knives and a good value for the money. I have a couple and have always been happy with how they have performed. I agree with most, however, that you should just plan on buying an aftermarket sheath for them as the kydex sheaths they come with are...well, a tad bit better than a cardboard sleeve. The principle reason, I think, they don't get much attention here is that his materials don't change (440C doesn't have the "bling" appeal that S30V or other newer steels do) and the model lineup has remained about the same for a long time. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just doesn't support a lot of fresh dialog on the forums.

I've got a Sub-hilt Silhouette and the knife is awesome, a beast. Like T1MPANI said the sheath is crap...I had one made by Normark and it's great. I'm planning on getting a couple more Entrek (The MERC, The COBRA) in the near future. Don't hesitate they're great knives!!!

Thought it

no new models
no exciting new steel

= no more interest

That's the way it goes

I had a cobra a while back. I would say it's one of the best knives around for under 100. It was razor sharp, good micarta, and a solid design. The sheath is crap. Even paying for an aftermarket sheath it's still a decent deal and a solid knife.

I just got an Entrek Javalina. I had been looking at RAT 3's and 5's, and I have a Becker Necker and I thought a Becker Campanion was too heavy (I want this as a trail/survival knife). This one sits right between the larger and smaller knives. The blade is very close to the same curves as the Becker Necker, but it's a little longer, and thicker (3/16" 440c). The fact that it is stainless is a plus for me, hiking beaches and soggy woods. The handle geometry is perfect for my hand, with just enough front and rear quillion to make it feel secure. The weight is within reason-- 7.6oz. That's a lot for ultralight hiking, where I count grams, but I could go to the ends of the earth with this one. I think I could baton the whooey out of this knfe with no problems.

Some wrote that the sheaths are bad, but this one works for me. I wouldn't say it is overbuilt, but it protects the knife and the user and it carries the knife. I may have to find something really "tactical" wth a pouch for a firesteel and stone. Someone needs to make sheath pouches that will bolt on a kydek sheath like a tek-lok. I'm thinking a compass/strobe pouch is about right.

I have a badger and javalina from Entrek, and like both of them very much. They are built like little tanks. The sheaths aren't much to look at, but they are functional as far as holding the knives.

I have a Scout, and I have really liked the thing. It has held up well to general camp duties, is relatively light for it's size, and as stated, the handle is comfy/secure. I've got my eyes on a Badger now...
