Entrek Master Short Sword ??

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this Entrek Master Short Sword in regards to quality and durability? I like the design, but I just want to make sure it can take a beating...

Survey says: Probably not.

Conventional wisdom is that although stainless can be made into a decent sword it is not usually. It has to do with details of heat treatment and grain structure I won't bore you with. There are some makers that can do it but they are few and far between.

A couple of disclaimers:

1) After doing a quick google search it would appear that Entrek stuff is a production version of stuff made by Ray Ennis. I have no idea about Mr. Ennis's credentials, it could be that he is one of the people that know how to properly build a sword from stainless. However even if he is, one wonders if a production sword with his name on it will be at the same level as his custom work.

2) The thing is only 18 inches long in that short length problems normally associated with stainless may not be an issue whether it is production or custom.

In short it looks like you have a coin flip. What do you want this for? Using? Brush clearing? Wall hanging? The answer could point you in the right direction.

I'd buy it with the intention of being a practical outdoor tool and, in a worse case scenario, the last line of defense. I was also looking at the AMERICAN KENSEI 47 "AK-47." Do you think this would fare better than Entrek's short sword??

Understand I've never seen Entrek's short sword so I really do not know per se. However there are concerns because of the steel used which the company may or may not have overcome. Also bluntly put I'm not terribly impressed with the blade geometry from what I can see in the pictures.

I've done a review of the AK-47 you can see it on my site if you like. In a nutshell I was pleasantly surpised by it, it does not have the same steel concerns and the blade geometry is much better in my opinion.

I have no experience with the entrek sword, but anytime I see a Stainless sword for sale I think of the infamous clip from that Home shopping network show where the sword breaks and sticks the guy in the chest. . .

I do have the Busse AK47 Sword, and I have been very impressed by it. I have chopped hardwoods with full power two hand swings, thrown it into hardwood, and even hit some steel while chopping brush with no visible edge damage. The tip area has become a little dull from throwing and sticking it into dirt, but there is no damage.

Hey Triton! What's your website? I would really like to read your review...

Thanks so much guys for such GREAT info! Honestly, its a great help.

It looks like I'm going to go with the Busse, but I was wondering what color would be best that doesn't show nicks or scratches from consistent use?? I definitely plan on using this beast outdoors, and I'd like to keep its appearance as nice looking as possible... Any ideas??

The coating will wear regardless of color. It will quickly become scratched up. You can always strip the coating off or they could probably re-coat it, not sure if they would charge a fee.

For info about coatings and toughness, you might want to ask in the Busse Forum. You will probably get some good comparisons of the different colors. Perhaps some good pics too.

I'll second what Rat said about the coating, I'd suggest getting one in whatever color you like and stripping it after it gets scratched to ugliness by use. There are some example of how to over in the Busse forum, I think they call them "Ice" whatevers when they strip the coating and mirror polish them. The ones I've seen that done to (Hell Razors I think not AK-47s) looked pretty nice.

Glad we could help. As Rat noted tritonworks.com is my site You can also follow the link in my signature below.

For the price, you might be better getting an ATrim or other such sword (falchion, H+H saber from his normal line are especially nice)... unless you prefer the "tactical" styling ;). The Busse has thats in spades.
Plus the design looks pretty sweet too. Like a large bolo... on steroids.

I know I should be asking this in the Busse forum, but is there a chance that Busse will run out of the AK-47 line anytime soon? I'm hoping that I can get enough funds together soon before the're not available!!

They are currently out of production. www.bussecompanystore.com is the only place to get new ones at retail, and I have seen good deals from time to time in the secondary market. Once they sell out at the company store, the secondary market will be your only source. You could email idahoskunk and ask how long he thinks the stock will last.
