Hi, I am considering buying an Entrek knife. There website isn't very good, so I went on YouTube to see if there was something and found a great set of six videos.

Questions for the group:

1. Entrek sells 600 knives annually. Are Entrek knives considered custom made knives?

2. Entrek swears by 440C. How much cost increase would it be for Entrek to upgrade to say: CPM-3V or N690C? ...20%? or 50%?

3. Any other input about Entrek knives would be appreciated!

Here are the six videos:

Thanks

I currently own three Entreks, with another used I swapped for on the way. So far I have no complaints about the knives. They are designed as a hard use blade, and have been treated as such. The only issue I have with any of the knives themselves is Scout I bought on the Forums, the handle is just too small for my mitt, otherwise a great blade. The sheaths I have are all configured for a lower carry than I like. Other than that, I have no bitches about the knives.

Probably closer to production than custom. The 440C steel that Entrek uses is a very good steel, and has always been a very good steel. I tnink Entrek works 440C like Bob Dozier works D2..........REALLY good!! I don't know how much a steel change would cost, but as long as Entrek is working the 440C like they are, I'm satisfied.:)

Entrek has got to be one of the most least talked about knives around. I own three of them and can attest to their toughness and durability. They are a true, "take you in" and "bring you back knife!"

A really good steel that a knifemaker is familiar with and heat treats properly is better for his business than a latest and greatest supersteel that he needs to learn more about. Some makers and manufacturers like to experiment with new materials. That's great. Others are in it for the long run, have decided which steel works real well for them, and churn out good working knives.

I had been wanting a Javelina for a while now, but watching the videos really put me over the edge and I found one for trade in the Exchange.

I was blown away by how fast he can grind a hardened blank! The videos are well worth the time to watch.

Is that a badger thats being made in the videos? Follow up question being do they all have the jimping on the spine, because I'm finding pictures from retailers showing both.

Thanks for posting the video links, I had no idea about the level of craftsmanship going into these.

1) I was surprised that entrek sells only 600 knives per year. I would call them a production knife that does custom work as well.

2) 440C is excellent Steel. I have several production and custom knives that use 440C and the difference in performance (holding an edge, toughness, corrosion resistance etc.) between 440C and some of the more expensive steels you mentioned is not worth an upgrade.

3) Entrek has a great reputation. They are considered well built and well designed users.
