As Im sure all of you know, Ray Ennis is a helluva craftsman. After ownig several of his knives, I can safely say this is my fav. Sharp as hell, not too heavy, I've even did a little chopping with it. Can't do any batoning, but then again, this bad boy's meant to process things of a more visceral nature. I do agree with some of what others are saying about his grinds being a little obtuse, but I didnt really see it on the Ranger. Maybe thats just the way mine came. I have a Silhouette that I had to thin out just a hair. I actually like this better than the Silhouette cuz I'm not the biggest fan of the subhilt, and the handle on it's a little on the short side. And yes, this is probably the most vicious 440C I've ever come across, can take worlds of abuse, an absolute bitch to sharpen, but I keep it right by my bedside....along with about 20 other knives, but hey, variety is the spice of life!

That's a bad piece of steel there! I need to pick up at least a Javalina. Entek makes some of the best looking blades out there and I never hear anything but good from owners.

Having owned an Entrek Survivor, I definitely think his knives don't get enough attention as they should. The designs are very versatile from more general use to job specific tasks. Plus the heat treat on 440C is exceptionally well done in my opinion. Also I think his thinnest stock is 3/16, they can take quite a beating. The grinds are just well done.

Entrek has to be the most underrated knife on the forum. Thanks for choosing the Ranger Mark II for a review.

Absolutely agreed. He greatly under represents himself. Call it his commitment to the craft. I'm thinking of picking up a Diver knife for a pry tool. He has a couple other designs I'm looking at. I wonder if people look elsewhere when they see his knives because they are turned off by the 440C steel, been mesmerized by all the newer supersteels. I think Ennis has maximized the potential of 440C.
Here are videos of Ray at work

It's really great to see a craftsman like him at work.

The 440c holds up very well, I have used my 11 Bravo for batonning and have opened cans with no problems.

own a entrek badger perfect little camping hiking knife, ray is a great guy to deal with and makes a bad ass product

Hello guys,
I just bought the Ennis/ Entrek Ranger MKII Knife at a very good Ebay price. It arrives today!! I have been intrigued by Entrek knives for awhile now, and been wanting one. But I have my preferences where knives are concerned.

And I like for the blades on my knives to be at least 8" but prefer longer. So I kept seeing Entrek's knives with much shorter blades than my liking.

But few days ago I had just got on Ebay to browse knives. Then I saw it...The listing for an Entrek Ranger MKII knife made by Ray Ennis. The listing even states that it is the very first one made.

But even if it's not, it has that big, badass long blade I love, the 440C steel that I love, and it's 1/4" thick which I love.

And I love the fact that everyone says that Ray Ennis' Entrek knives are difficult to sharpen because it means that Ray makes his knives Right!! I hate knives that get really sharp but then they dull after the first 2 or 3 uses.

I have a Ray Matton handmade First Blood knife made with D2 steel and I tell you, it was a Beast to get sharp the way I like my knives. But once I got it sharpened, that knife has stayed the same sharpness for a year and a half now. I paid a lot for that knife but I bought it to Use and haenjoy...not for Show And Tell only, lol.

All of my knives are high end production and high end handmade knives. And every one of them can be used in any extreme survival or combat situation.

And I am sure that my new Ennis/ Entrek Ranger MKII knife truly fits the Using Knife bill too. Thanks for your post here about your Entrek Ranger MKII.

I have several Rangers, Mercs etc....
Very solid underrated knives, I have done full power body whip cuts and stabs into a vertical log ( think untreated telephone pole). Have not damaged edge or point.
Ennis gets the most out of 440C.
Ranger delivers a very good back cut as well.
