Enzo Birk folder D2 or S30V?

I'm going to pick up one of the newly redesigned Enzo Birk folders for edc use and I'm having a hard time deciding wether to get it in D2 or spend the extra $15 for S30V. In my personal experience these two steels are pretty even in most performance categories with S30V having the edge in corrosion resistance. So what would you guys do?

I'd probably go with S30V just because I have had a good experience with it. Could you please PM where you found this knife in stock?

Not S30V. It is not a good steel for scandis, as the Spyderco Nilakka has proven. Niether is D2 for that matter, but better than S30V for such an acute blade grind.

s30v because it's my favourite steel and D2 is more prone to rust.
wich model are you buying? :)
i've had one in my radar for a while.
a cf one with Ti bolsters and ffg blade...
oh...and in s30v :D

Thanks guys I went with S30V simply because its one of my favorite all around steels and I read a reveiw comparing the S30V Birk the the Spyderco Nillaka and the Birk had none of the chipping issues that the Spyderco had.

I went with the CF scandi grind in s30v. I would have liked to get the ffg with bolsters but no one had the redesigned version in stock and I wanted the deep carry pocket clip.

Not a huge fan of any of the tool steels personally. No brainer for me. SxxV is prepared for blades from start to finish.

When I finally get one (love em) I'll be getting d2. Nothing wrong with s30v, but I'd rather have the knife in the scandi configuration.

Don't they make them in o1 also? If that's correct, I'd go that way.

The grinds on the nilakka and the enzo birk can't be compared.

The nilakka is like grind 2, just with small edge on the bottom (micro bevel?). Sorry I couldn't describe it better. I'm not sure how the first ones were, but that's how I think the improved ones are.

The enzo is like grind 3. As you can see there's a big difference.

I see a lot of "D2 isn't stainless", but I don't recall reading about it rusting. On paper it's not far from stainless, so can we please stop worrying?

Both the S30V and D2 blades are scandi ground with a small micro bevel. I bought the Birk in S30V and two days later accidentally dropped it blade open onto my concrete driveway. Brisa didn't have any S30V replacement blades so I had to buy D2, so now I have a D2 Birk Folder and an extra slightly damaged S30v blade lol
Here's a pic of the S30V blade before I dropped it

I agree 100% the Birk is way thicker at the edge and the angle is much more obtuse then the Nilakka. I dropped mine on concrete from about 4ft and the edge only sustained a very small chip. D2 is pretty corrosion resistant but it does require more care then S30V. S30V is the better steel the hard part is deciding wether its $20 better then D2 which is no slouch.

I have a D2 version on the way with the curly birch handles. I can't wait to try it out. I'll post my thoughts about it afterwards. My current EDC's have s30v and I have noticed that both of them wear slightly differently. they are both buck vantage pros and one seems to keep the edge a lot longer than the other even though I use them both exactly the same. Weird.

One of these days I'll pick up a model 75 in D2, its my favorite steel hands down. I say save the $15 and be happy.
