Dear all,

Recently I'm thinking about purchasing an Enzo Trapper with scandi grind (IMO, the scandi grind is really good for bushcraft). Since they have two (three actually) steel versions O1 and N690, I just wondering which one is better? I'm living in Quebec, Canada, also may be hiking in Nova Scotia.

Or maybe ask the question this way:

Is the O1 really irresistant in humid areas? During the hiking, as a daily using knife, I don't think the O1 will rust that easy ... for storing, yes, it should be covered by oil. Anyway it is better to list the points to compare:

1. Rust Resistance (relatively speaking, as mentioned above, for daily using knife)
2. Edge holding (not dull easily, don't want to sharpen every time after using)
3. Easy to sharpen (maintenance, since in the hiking area, you may not find suitable sharpen tools) ?

Thank you in advance.

N690 is very stainless and will likely hold an edge better than O1 at the same hardness. N690 is an improved VG10 steel and think is very easy to sharpen ta boot.

Thanks a lot, so N690 could be profiled as a zero scandi grind without weakening the blade? since I've heard sort of thing as: "D2 is better with flat grind than scandi grind", don't if certain steel were better with certain grind ....

I have it in O1, actually it's my girlfriends. And as you can imagine, like most girls, she abuses the shit out of it. The edge seems to hold up pretty well. The blade is blade not spotless after some soggy camping trips, but it hasn't really rusted.

Also, it is worth mentioning that I have a Fallkniven F1 in VG10 steel (Convex grind), it shows several dull spots after chopping (my bad, chopping with my knife is really bad idea). And the F1 really sparks well, best among my small knives collection:

  • mora classic 1 (best ever for money)
  • mora heavy duty companion (not sharp as the classic one)
  • Condor bushlore mini (not recommended, the Quality Control is terrible)
  • Ahti forest
  • helle Ola kniven
  • Opinel 8 stainless

And Roselli Carpenter/ hunting are on my watching list .... After such collection, I found that the convex grind is not really good at wood processing comparing to scandi grind, so now, I mainly focus on the scandi grind fixed blade knife.
