im thinking about getting an EOU Sharpness Tester. Mostly for fun, but also to help improve my edges and consistency.

Does anybody own one, or tried one? Any thoughts on using it to improve your sharpening?

If they dirt cheap like a 100 or less but I still wouldn't be sure about buying one.

The only thing it really proves is edge sharpness and not edge retention, there's no point having the worlds sharpest edge it you can only a few thing's with it then it's dull,if I were you just work at being a better sharpener try different stones and methods and if your getting really good result's by feel and if edge retention is there then what more do you need.

I gave a summary of sharpness testers available in the world in another recent thread about TsProf. Testers that test edge retention cannot test the initial sharpness. Of all, the EOU Sharpness Tester is the only that can tell the edge sharpness in the razor range.

I was among the first to have the old KN100 edge tester from Edge On Up and later got a PT50B electronic. Both units work very well, the electronic instrument is just more handy and faster. With these instruments the sharpener can put a number on a sharpness level and that's the best of all.

Thanks, I’ve spent a fair amount of time reading the bessex forum. It’s an incredible resource for sharpening topics.

I was curious to see if anyone on this forum was using the EOU tester - since this forum tends to cover a wider range of sharpening methods and sharpeners than Bessex.
