Crap, i forgot about the november challenge. I had TONS of gathered tinder and I even made an ice block for refracted light. then i needed a sunny day so i waited and then i forgot. So today i cleaned up my bench that was full of the stuff, bark and grass and corn husks and cobs (my bow drill) and i set it on fire with the bk5 and bk10 in a front row seat since i was going to use them. dumbness and a dumb thread but it made a big flame...

waiting for the fail :)

oh, you didn't enter a contest. epic fail? interesting definition :)

i was hoping for something like "accidentaly ran truck into house while gazing lovingy at my BK2 and thinking about how i was going to fondle it later, that right at the monent of impact, i had pulled the knife out and somehow managed to cut the shifter right off, and the truck went shooting around the inside of the house, and everything burnt to the ground, but the knife is okay!"

:D

yeh the epic fail was having over a dozen different tinders collected from all over the place, making a corn cob bow drill, a convex ice block, and then forgetting to enter the contest. epic dumbness

then you killed all that tinder! how you going to build a new fire? :)

That is a fail! At least you prepared. I kept putting it off because we've had no time outside of work to participate. I kept thinking Id do it on Thanksgiving break, but the family wasn't having that. Then the last few days after it rained a lot. So chalk my flake out up to procrastination! I labeled my withdraw reason as being because I'm lame and I suck. The Dec. challenge looks to be less time consuming and easier to get done in time since we'll be waiting on Moose to sober up. Hell, it could be the longest running contest ever!

Yep. there you go. you owe me a new office chair because I was laughing so hard that I leaned back and broke it. You suck. :D

Did you get to try the corn cob bowdrill or the ice block? Did it work? Very curious.

That sucks man.

The ice refracted a flashlight very well so i was just waiting for some sun. I was so excited about it, cuz if i pulled it off it would have been legendary. The corn cob bow drill was an idea i stole from a thread by bryan breeden and i was planning on making a video so i held off trying it until that sunny day. But the idea was two bare cobs wrapped together for the hearth and another for the spindle which is placed in the center of the cob hearth not on the edge like a standard wood setup. its supposed to work quite well from what i found.

I almost tried that two stick method for my hearth, but I got it going the regulare way. I will have to give it a shot though, much less carving.

I agree it would have been legendary.

i was planning on doing my challenge entry on turkey day - then was informed that I was going to the in-laws instead.
the rest of that weekend sucked for decent weather and I totally spaced off that today was a new month.

Kinda' the same thing only different here. Inlaws. Thankgiving. Rain. Yada, yada, yada ... But, mostly me procrastinating.

Good contest. Good entries. Congrats to all.
