Epic stupided my foot with a Skinny ASH and Becker Campanion.

Sometimes I can't split a piece of wood all the way, rather than backing out and trying a different spot, I found I could jam a stout knife in the other way, and push on the log with my foot while pulling the knives towards me. That's the theory anyway, and it works great with heavy boots.

Not recommended with bare feet however.

wow, that sucks, it hurts just looking at it...
is it only Busse owners that once you cut yourself, you don't worry about stopping the bleeding and just need to get a camera?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEouch

Heal fast brother.

I used to be an EMT and I have some pretty careless friends, a little trauma now and then is good practice.

I hopped around and gathered the materials.

Compressed the wounds, then realized the photo op and grabbed the camera. Took some pics, then compressed again.

Wiped down the whole thing with iodine solution, then opened the long cut and looked around, looked clean and the bleeding was almost stopped, so i put on some antibiotic and bandaged with some gauze.

The one on top was right into what little meat is on the top of the foot. No big blood vessels, nerves or tendons hit, despite the depth. It was similarly free of debris, but i irrigated it anyway, put antibiotic on it, butterfly bandaged, and gauze bandaged it. Wrapped the whole thing up and its been elevated since.

 What no super glue, electrical tape, or high proof alcohol.

On a serious note glad to hear you got it all under control

bummer. fortunately it's not any worse.

I respectfully suggest you find another method for splitting wood; that one's, well, less than ideal to say the least. learn this one word with respect to knives: baton.

That's how this starts. There are pieces with knots that can't be hammered through easily, so it's sometimes easier to pry. Not this time.

When I get a piece that has a knot I just can't smash through, I cut a wooden wedge and use that. It's a lot safer than prying with two knives ;)

a ffbm is a nice chopper...
I'm glad you knew what you were doing though, others might have had to go to the hospital for that.

I go for a bigger baton and hit it harder.:D

This has to be the second cut foot this week, whose next

Hope it heals up right for you.

Thanks for sharing.

Glad you'l be alright arcli9ht

I found years ago that duct tape is not a suitable replacement for stitches, or cauterization & stitches in that instance

excessive alcohol helped though.

Duct tape sucks for sealing wounds - you gotta use GAFF tape. If you've ever worked around theater or tv production, you've used gaffer's tape....

and here's a well-kept secret....

It's totally superior to duct tape for almost every job (except possibly sealing ducts).

We all need to remember how dangerous knives can be big or small, in fact all things small....

Glad your ok!

Wow. After how many drinks did that sound like a good plan ?:D

When I'm splitting wood with my Gransfors Bruks maybe I'll get more leverage if I hold the log with my neck...

Gaffer's tape is definitely where it's at. Expensive but oh so good.

I knew this was going to be a good thread. Hope your foots heals well and that you didn't ruin what looks to be a nice Zamberlan boot.
