Guys,

I've talked to a tech support guy at epoxy manufacturer.
He told me that to get better bond it's good to treat steel with phosphoric acid solution before epoxying it. Phosphoric acid converts iron oxide(always covers the steel surface) into Iron Phosphate (a black substance) which is much better for epoxy to bond with.

Anyone tried phosphoric acid to improve epoxy bond?

Thanks

Epoxy bonds both mecanical and chemical. Rubbing the steel with 400grit or corser paper prior to applying epoxy increase bonding strenght.

This should of course be done prior to, and in addition to chemical pre-treating.

Good Luck

I'm thinking for our purposes that scruffing-up the surface is plenty. A good sanding, or better yet - sand blasting will remove any oxidation anyway. :D
