Epoxy Coating and Cooking?

Hi all,

first off, just wanted to say I've learned so much off this forum. Thanks to everyone who posts.

Well, after reading all the positive comments I bought the BK11 and am loving it for general utility (cutting boxes, whittling branches, turning big things into many smaller things). Great sheath, comfy handle, excellent blade shape/steel.

However I'm a little hesitant to use it for cooking because of the epoxy coating. Is there a chance it will come off and get into my food?

Any comments are appreciated!

Norm

p.s. I've started doing gear reviews on Youtube and recently did the BK11 to bring more people into the Becker fold:

Hope ya'll like it!

I use my BK11 all the time to cut up chicken I'm going to cook. I havent had any problems so far...

Of course I ate paint chips and lived under power lines as a kid! :)

Good video. They are coming out with micarta scales for the BK11 soon so that will solve one problem. Also, draw the blade from the sheath some and it will come out easier. You might also try popping the blade out by getting a grip on the handle and pushing the shealth off of it with your thumb. I found out that was the easiest way for me at first...now that I've had the BK11 for 6 months the sheath is broken in and feels great when drawing the knife.

I use my 11 for food prep all the time. It works great and the epoxy holds up real well. I cut both cold food and real hot food also.

Thanks for the replies. Now looking forward to using this little guy in the kitchen.

I just heard about the micarta scales too. Anyone have an idea of when they're coming out and for how much?
