Ok what do you guys know about this stuff?

Is it availible in colors other than black?

Who does powder coating (anyone?)

Just looking for general info

thanks guys

Powder coating is available in a multitude of colors. Black is probably one of the more common colors used. There are about as many colors as the spray paint that you get at the hardware store. I got my old wheel rims coated with a silver that looked really sharp.

Look in the Yellow Pages under "coatings" or something like that. Dont' bother sending across the country to have it done. I am living in a small city of about 50000 and there are several companies doing powder coating. You can also look for companies that manufacture furniture. They may be willing to throw in your stuff for just a few dollars if you are wanting a color that they are doing. The place across the street from me is going to charge me $3 Dollars New Zealand (about $1.50 US) to do some 1 1/2 inch tubes, each a yard long.

Check what condition they want the piece in. One place that I used in Toronto sandblasted my wheel rims for me first (about $200 Canadian for a set of 4). Others may want the piece degreased already.

You might not get "perfect" coverage since they have to hang the piece on a hook. It is possible to mask off areas that you don't want coated. Just use some masking tape. We do this with the cabinets that we make here at work.

Hope this helps. Have fun.

Brian,
Eastwood.com has some pretty inexpensive systems for powder coating.
Lots of colors and types of powder are available. It isn't a difficult thing to do.

Shoot me an email. I know a guy who does powder coating, usually the poly stuff, but he can get whatever you are looking for. What colors and textures are you thinking of?

I just wanted to do some experimenting and see if i could come up with anything unique, i have some ideas i have been wanting to try out.
