Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to get a epoxy/resin and put some seashells or other materials in it to make some knife scales? Do you guys also know any budget epoxy/resin is clear enough to show the materials inside it? I know nothing about using epoxy/resin to make knife scales and I would really like to learn how. Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

One of the small vendors at bladeshow a few years ago had something like that. If I recall it was almost a beach scene with some sand at the bottom with shells sitting on it. I'm not sure what he used for an epoxy but there are definitely some out there that are almost crystal clear.

you should watch some random youtube vids on epoxy - what you mention is literally being done by nearly everyone for nearly everything - tabletops, desks, flooring, special projects ad infinitum

real epoxy is difficult to find at discounted prices, usually your best bet is buying large volumes from wholesalers

At the gift store across the street from Graceland, I bought a pen that had the ghost of Elvis floating back and forth in front of the mansion. That would make a cool knife handle.

I contemplated trying the resin thing and got side tracked on other projects. Not to mention a bit frustrated trying to figure it out. There are a craft places online that sell smaller sized bottles of resin and hardener. I saved resinobsession.com because I believe they had videos of different craft projects on it. It has been a while but I do remember there being different types of the resin. I did read that you need to be sure of the type you get for your specific project. I was wanting to do a wood with maybe a swirl type design in the resin to make it look like a mother of pearl inlay. Maybe mix 2 contrasting colors. There are videos on youtube that show the large projects. I have seen resin on ebay that was cheaper but they do not really say exactly what they were. Mainly small craft sites is where I found what seemed to be better quality resin it without having to buy industrial sized amounts. I tried emailing 2 or 3 sites with a few questions and got no replies. I know my wood idea got me a bit annoyed because you need to worry about bubbles. I still would like to try it. I think it would be cool to make my own scales. I am a sucker for the fancy woods and also inlays. Sooner or later i will get back to researching the idea. My grandfather was a pro at it. I have a bunch of butterflies and insects he did in a molds. And a little crab we found seashell hunting as a kid in Florida. Wish he was still around to learn from. He was a genious gardener too. I swear he put steroids in his soil. Let us know what you figure out or do.

Thank you guys for your input. I probably won't be doing it anytime soon because I barely made my first knife handle. I'll try it for sure once I get better and have more experience.
